Mankind knew that they could not change society, so instead of reflecting on themselves they blamed the beasts. ...the second part of that goes "But they saw beauty in the lives of the beasts, and could not lie to themselves about it." I'm waiting for that bit.

The reason more people seem trans, queer, neurodivergent, etc than when your parents and grandparents were young? Back then they didn't have words for that, or they only had slurs, or they just expected those people to die politely like "proper" disabled folk. Nothing you're feeling is a fad.
