Last weekend we also stopped off at the Hemsta Hagar stone carvings near Uppsala and Enköping! The red markings from the Bronze Age are clearly still visible today and depict a whole bunch of things. In these pictures you can see the animals and horses drawing a chariot or cart!

In Uppsala cathedral there are a few famous people we've talked about recently on the podcast! Starting with Gustav Vasa - he gets a grand tomb! Then there's Johan III's wife Katarina from Poland, opposite Johan himself, who is lying down taking a break from it all!

We've been on a lot of trips recently! Here are some photos from a visit to Uppsala, where we returned to the magnificent cathedral ⛪️ We saw the first ever depiction of the building, and even a sealed document from the Uppsala Meeting which we covered in episode 119! 😱

Today, we have a new episode out where we visit a place in Finland with a very recognisable name! Check it out for a battle, a new regency and an archbishop going on a tour to hunt down non-believers!

Today, we took a trip to the lovely, small seaside town Trosa. Coincidentally, it's soon to be given its town privileges in our timeline, by none other than Duke Karl, fact that's commemorated on a plack on the town hall!

A bit of a surprise release for Kingdöm today! There are two episodes out, due to (minor spoilers...) Erik and Erik being perhaps the shortest one of the series. But they're still both fun stories and we try and do them justice!

Sigismund is arriving in Sweden, ready to become king. But what is this meeting his uncle's been having before he was able to get there? Who knew that a church meeting could be so definitive in a country's history?⛪️

Stenkil, is it just a cool name, or does our fourth king have more to interest us and secure the Three Crowns? 👑 Oh, and he was a good archer too! 🏹 Check out today's new episode to find out!

It's time for a new episode tomorrow, where we look at the relationship between Johan and his son Sigismund. Things are about to change once Sigismund takes the throne of Poland...

A new episode of Kingdöm is out, where we're ranking Olof Skötkonung's other son, Emund the Old. Here are the shocked reactions when Sweden's new Bishop turns up, only to see there's someone pretending to be an archbishop with the King! Listen to find out how harshly we judge Emund for this...

Not only do we have a new episode out today, but we've also been enjoying some snow in the forest behind where we live! Luckily we know where we're going, as even the signs are all covered up 😄❄️⛄️

Get ready for a rumbunctious episode coming your way tomorrow! Of course, some Scots in the story end up causing havoc as they fight for Johan over in Estonia! 😄 Listen to find out more about the seemingly never ending conflict with Russia and Ivan the Terrible!

@flatpacksweden.bsky.social thought of you

Tomorrow, we'll release the second regular episode of Kingdöm, where we judge Olof Skötkonung's son, Arundel Jakob! It's snowed in Stockholm, so here's a picture of our local runestone, which comes from around the time of Anund! It looks even better in the snow ☃️

It is now up and working again! So you should be able to find it there, but definitely check out the Kingdom feed to ensure you get all the episodes after this weekend, as they'll only be posted there

Hello everyone! We've seen that the Olof Skötkonung episode of Kingdom that's published on the Flatpack feed doesn't work for some reason, so we'll publish it again in a few hours. It's a good excuse to subscribe to the Kingdom feed instead, which is fine 😄 Just search for Kingdom: Swedish Rulers!

We're here! A new year, a new podcast! We rank Sweden's first king, Olof Skötkonung. There's also an introduction episode too, where we discuss the categories, a brief summary of Swedish history up Olof and some other general bits and pieces. Welcome on the journey! open.spotify.com/episode/6Kvq...

We're riding into 2025 in style like a Swedish monarch! Thank you for listening to us during the year or following us here on our new Bluesky account, it means a lot. We hope you enjoy 2025 and don't forget to check out our new podcast Kingdöm which is out tomorrow, where we rank Olof Skötkonung!

All the social media for our new podcast Kingdöm will be found right here 😉 First episode on New Year's Day!

Today's episode is out now! It's going to be a good one. Here you can get out a sneak preview of what Abbey Joe was up to 😄

Dec. 27, 1924: Carl Lotave, a Swedish-born painter who documented the American West in landscapes, portraits of Indians and depictions of their rituals, dies by suicide (gas) in his New York studio. He was 52 and left a note saying he was dying of cancer.

Tomorrow sees the release of our last episode of 2024 and it has a pretty funny title! Listen to find out who Abbey Joe was and what he got up to, plus why people are concerned about a lake near Västervik...

It's soon time to publish the first episode of our new podcast, Kingdom! The episode is coming out on New Year's Day, and you can already subscribe to our feeds on Apple and Spotify! 🍏 podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/k... 🟢 open.spotify.com/show/1iFlnZd...

Merry Christmas from Chris, on the real day to celebrate Christmas! Being a Brit, the 25th is the real day and it is a turkey at the centre stage, not sill! (Although this year, we had lamb...).

God jul 🎄☃️ Merry Christmas! For Åsa, being a Swede, Christmas Eve is the main day of Christmas celebrations, with lots of food (yes, plenty of herring 🐟) and presents in the evening.

Now that we've announced all of the categories for our new podcast Kingdom, we've updated our website too. So now you can check out all the categories and follow the scores as we go along, on that new page. www.aflatpackhistoryofsweden.com/kingdom-swedish-rulers

It's our final category, the ultimate prize for which all the rulers will be fighting for: The Three Crowns! 👑👑👑 The symbol of Sweden and Swedish royalty, we'll see if the rulers have that extra special quality or life story that makes them worthy to sit in our exclusive club!

It's time to reveal two bonus categories for Kingdom! The throne changes hands so often, so if you win the throne by force or nefarious means, that means bonus points! Likewise, you lose points if the throne is taken from you. Plus, if you cram in a lot, more points for efficiency for you!

There's a new episode out today! Johan takes over as King but the council and parliament have different ideas about what "give the enemy cannonballs, gunpowder and arrows" means...

Here are two new Kingdom categories for the price of one! Both smaller when it comes to points, but important when it comes to the life of a ruler. I Rikets Tjänst is a Swedish phrase meaning "In service of the realm", used when giving out medals or other awards.
