Yes, this excellent piece by Alan Kohler is correct. Housing in Australia is positioned as an ‘investment’ instead of a basic ‘right’. And Howard made it so much worse when he introduced the capital gains tax discount.

💯 There’s always been an element of blaming the individual, but it grew exponentially once governments realised offering ‘case managers’ was so much cheaper than offering housing. AND there’s a bonus…it also serves as an employment program (except not for the folk who are homeless)
