Once a guy at my airport gate was bragging about being at January 6th and then I passed him sitting in first class when I boarded and whenever I read stuff like this I think about how his life doesn’t get any better or worse in any way if a trans teenager kills themselves. Evil for the sake of evil.

Normalize crowdsurfing at poetry readings.

Andrew points out that 10-15x more people read our story than attended trump’s birthday parade.

from “Parable of the Talents” by Octavia Butler

It was the "Division Commander's Fun Run" of military parades.

Holy moly, that video from a few months back just hit 15,000 views - which isn't much for YouTube, but is a lot for a channel that's lucky when the videos clear 1K! Thank you to everyone who has shared & recommended this - it really helps get these ideas to a wider audience! youtu.be/wG4zLcKsCiA

The Los Angeles Press Club says law enforcement officers have violated press freedoms of reporters covering anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles more than three dozen times. https://n.pr/3Zw0tPg

A set of author's copies arrived yesterday while we were at baseball! If functional society ends in the next 10 days, I'll still have had a poetry collection in the world! Take that, fascists!

An observation from SW Iowa on today's Atlantic, IA No Kings protest. Freedom loving and kind crowd. All the hate came from MAGA people driving by flipping off the crowd. They were met with love of country kindness. Says it all. Why do they only know hate? Look to their leader.

I've seen corporate meetings more exciting than that parade.

For those of us who are disabled or prohibited from protesting for any reason, here are ways we can help. I can’t take a service dog to a protest, it’s unsafe for him but also for others around us. I can do some of these.

Texas: “I was shocked that they were mobilizing the amount of people that they were mobilizing,” the officer told the Statesman. “It doesn’t make any sense to me why we would be activated in such large numbers against the citizens we’re sworn to protect.” www.rawstory.com/texas-nation...

today is a celebration with strangers you will find solidarity with. If you're goofy, go out and be goofy. If you're a shy introvert, go and hang along the edges, you will not be the only one!

StickerMule CEO alleges death threat from party leader www.timesunion.com/capitol/arti... - We should have known that this guy was going to try to run for office. Don't shop at Sticker Mule.

ICE wanted the San Francisco Standard to blur the faces of agents who were taking immigrants into custody. The Standard told them "no." "...we believe that censoring images from this news event would set a harmful precedent for the media’s right to report and the public’s right to know."

Holy Shit: Seth Moulton asked how many commercial ships have transitted the Red Sea since his purportedly successful Houthi operation. Whiskey Pete answers that two military ships have transitted. Moulton answers: Zero. The answer is zero.

Yonks ago I bought "Before the Kapows" from @happytoast.bsky.social to donate to my local work coffee place Kapow at 46 The Callls Leed. They love it and it is now on display!

“The soldiers who cheered partisan applause lines at Fort Bragg, and their leaders, erred in a spectacular way.” www.defenseone.com/ideas/2025/0...

This is the InfoSec equivalent of the Doomsday Machine. Copilot is difficult to disable (by design) and every computer running Office365 is now stuck with a security hole the size of the Crab Nebula.

Cannot express enough how much what happened at that meeting three weeks ago has changed things on the ground. Courthouse arrests started within days, then check-in arrests. Worksite raids, once rare, began happening daily. Detention has skyrocketed over capacity. People are going missing.

Dealing with law enforcement can be stressful, so it’s important to know your rights before you’re face-to-face with ICE agents. While there’s never any guarantee that law enforcement officers will follow the law, here’s what they can and can’t legally do to you and what you can legally demand. ⤵️

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Awful: News orgs are credulously amplifying the ugly idea that sending troops into LA is good politics for Trump. This gives his lawless abuses of power the aura of conventional politics, obscuring how extraordinary and dangerous this moment truly is. 1/ (new piece) newrepublic.com/article/1966...

The mental laziness of a select portion of the Army’s officer corps is increasingly becoming a danger to the Republic The way they flock to AI to remove their remaining critical thinking abilities is a *choice*

The proportion of Evangelical American Christians who’ve spent generations fetishizing (and commercializing) historical resistance to Nazism and who are now eagerly endorsing the very same kind of politics and violence as enacted by the Nazi regime is striking.

"[...] Franz Marc died a young man, shrapnel in his brain. I would rather die than try to explain to the blue horses what war is. [...] Maybe the desire to make something beautiful is the piece of God that is inside each of us. [...]" —poet Mary Oliver, "Franz Marc's Blue Horses"

When you hate how depressed you get watching the news, but you literally can't stop watching because if you do, then you are tacitly accepting the destruction of your country.

"A plan to fail or a fail to plan"? It's a bad mission with bad optics and bad consequences if/when things go wrong. It is spending our capital and goodwill. And Joe, as always, gets to pay the price. #civmil

THE FINAL PATROL On 9 June 1944, in a field overlooking Tilly-sur-Seulles, the poet & writer Captain Keith Douglas of A Squadron, Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, dismounts his tank to undertake a patrol on foot. He would not return. #ww2 #Normandy #illustration

in so many videos out of LA i am seeing officers aiming rubber bullets right into crowds, this is filling me with a deep and anxious rage knowing what happens when they do that www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/ne...

Just thinking about this for no particular reason. www.latimes.com/california/s...

This is why I love LA.

Hey, this is cool! I happen to have a piece that'd go perfectly with this...

Today is the anniversary of Alan Turing’s suicide, in 1954. Turing was the father of modern computing. His codebreaking helped the Allies to win WWII. Arrested for being gay, he chose chemical castration over a prison sentence. He lost his security clearance, as all homosexuals were deemed a risk.

How now-DHS Secretary Kristi Noem felt about a president potentially federalizing the National Guard one year ago:

Been saying since last year that resistance by local police was not going to happen/ would be very very hard. The usual arguments about police legitimacy and "public safety" are not sufficient.
