There are 2 fires burning at present in the VIC high country. State gov crews do an great job to contain these fires. But in a busy season we need extra capacity. FoE has been promoting the idea of a vol remote area team who could work with the state crews. www.melbournefoe.org.au/thinking_fire

Andrew Constance's candidate page says that he is "determined to never see a repeat of the Black Summer firestorms" and wants "strong action on climate change". These words don't have much meaning if you're campaigning for Dutton's LNP and promising to tear up Australia's Paris Agreement goals.

Matt Kean fights back against Ted O’Brien’s attempts to silence him and the Coalition’s threats to castrate the CCA – again. But where is his support?

I'm doing a workshop on community campaigning at this POW event on sunday. In my experience the best campaigns happen where people are willing to move beyond their political differences & work together for a common good. protectourwinters.org.au/events/powfe...

Coalition spokesninnies have lashed out at the nice man at the Climate Change Authority | First Dog on the Moon

Threatening to sack the Chair of an independent authority because you don’t like a report he’s released is Trumpian. It’s so important we don’t go down that road. Really irresponsible behaviour from the Liberal Party. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne... www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

FoE welcomes the Interim Report released by the House Select Committee on Nuclear Energy. The Report states that nuclear power “cannot be deployed in time to support Australia's critical energy transition targets & climate commitments.” www.foe.org.au/response_to_...

'The Coalition has given another insight into what life might be like under a Peter Dutton-led gov, with the promise of a purge of experts who disagree with its policies, in a potentially horrifying redux of the mass sackings occurring right now in the USA'. reneweconomy.com.au/trump-lite-c...

New analysis shows pursuing the deployment of nuclear in Australia’s grid could add at least 2 billion tonnes to national emissions, on a global path that is consistent with 2.6°C of warming. www.climatechangeauthority.gov.au/media-releas...

March 11 National Day of Action against Nuclear Power 14 years since the terrible nuclear disaster in Fukushima. The impacts of this event are felt to this day with people still displaced & contaminated liquid being routinely dumped in the Pacific. dont-nuke-the-climate.org.au/fukushimanev...

And an audio reportback from the snow gum summit. “A lot of us are struggling with the fact that we are starting to witness the collapse of this iconic species. Hardly anyone is paying attention & we feel really frustrated by the lack of interest from the VIC gov.” www.rrr.org.au/on-demand/se...

A gold mine is threatening to destroy one of Indonesia’s last rainforests, home to the world's rarest orangutan & communities who have relied on the forest for generations. All for UK-based conglomerate Jardine Matheson’s profits. Please take action! action.friendsoftheearth.uk/petition/sav...

This is always my favourite time of year, when ecologists lobby for their favourite eucalypt to win and tell us why. Having just come back from the @foe.org.au Snow Gum Summit, I am sure it won't surprise you which I voted for. Hopefully if they win, someone can write better poetry about them.

FoE's Snow Gum summit saw the creation of a Declaration which is urging government's to act to protect this iconic community. The statement was crafted by a gathering of leading academics, land managers, First Peoples, outdoor groups & concerned citizens. www.melbournefoe.org.au/snow_gum_dec...

The final leg of the Snow Gum Summit was closed by Dhudhuroa, Waywurru and Taungurung custodians sharing reflections & cultural stories about peoples coming together to address a common challenge. We must bring our knowledge together to care for the Alps holistically, before we lose this landscape.

This morning at the Snow Gum Summit it was a privilege to hear Russell Mullet speak about retracing GunaiKurnai travel routes & cultural movement across Alpine areas & the importance of remapping these areas as the Cultural Landscapes they are, so that we can all see the real stories of this land.

Day #1 of the Snow Gum Summit was epic! Thank you to everyone that contributed. Join us tomorrow via livestream as we explore emerging solutions! Link below.

So good to be here! Thanks FoE and Cam and the team for making it happen

This afternoon at the Snow Gum Summit we’ve explored how fire, climate change & beetle dieback impact snow gum persistence & regeneration. We also heard how flora & fauna are interconnected across landscapes & how a holistic lens and respect for complex knowledge is needed to care for Country.

Our Snow Gum Summit kicked off this morning with a message from GunaiKurnai elder Russell Mullet & a panel on cultural, literary and artistic representations of the Alps, featuring Taungurung cultural lead Uncle Shane Monk, author Anthony Sharwood & photographers Sarah Lynch & Mike Edmonson.

Analysis of the Coalition's nuclear modelling suggests the plants could use three times as much water as existing coal sites. Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has challenged the Coalition to explain how water would be supplied to the plants. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

Very excited with the lineup of speakers we have for the first ever 'snow gum summit' - delving into the twin threats of climate change driven fire & dieback. FEB 14 - 16, Dinner Plain, VIC high country. www.melbournefoe.org.au/snow_gum_sum...

Meanwhile, world continues to 🔥🔥🔥 ‘records began in 1910. The national annual average temperature was 1.46°C warmer than the long-term average (1961–90). Heatwaves struck large parts of Australia early in the year, & from September to December.’ #ClimateCrisis theconversation.com/its-official...

Massive gaslighting from Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill. Woodside and the other gas giants export 80% of Australia’s gas, exposing Australians to high global prices and price gouging us for our own gas. If we want cheap affordable energy for Australians CUT GAS EXPORTS

“Coal mines that come in under a size threshold don’t have to do a full enviro impact assessment, but full assessment will be applied to all wind farms. I wonder if the Qld LNP has modelled the loss in regional jobs and investment from these decisions? Knee jerk planning restrictions will only cut jobs and economic opportunities for regional communities, and ultimately delay climate action reneweconomy.com.au/queensland-u...
