Scar Symmetry brought polished Swedish-style melodeath with a hint of pop sheen. Spotless performance—dual guitar solos were flawless, and the two vocalists handled clean/growl duties with ease. But... no bassist on stage? Something felt missing. 😂 #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/2jEtng...

Progressive doom band Poem from Greece—tight, mature, and emotionally powerful vocals. Complex polyrhythmic sections added a true prog flair. One of my favorite acts across both days of the festival. #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/28GZcb...

Relentless double kicks and walls of guitar—Xaon is full-blast blackened death metal with some symphonic touches. The vocalist kept the crowd moshing. The closer song ends on a folky twist, with clean vocals that hit surprisingly deep. #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/4X5nor...

Turbulence is a prog metal band from Lebanon with beautifully crafted and balanced structures. Middle Eastern elements are tastefully woven in—especially in the vocals. A modern, subtler take on fusion than Myrath or Orphaned Land. #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/7Kn8dx...

Aeons, from the Isle of Man, brought tight melodic death-infused prog metal. Top-tier growls, heavy groove, and nostalgic dual-guitar melodies. Huge thanks to @progmetalmania for correcting my mix-up with Sweden’s Aeon—oops! 😂 open.spotify.com/track/3FsWZy...

Soulsplitter was my absolute favorite of the fest! Cinematic prog metal with sweeping forms, expressive contrasts, lush vocals, impressionist piano, classical elements, and stunning musicianship. Their new single preview "Algorithm" is phenomenal! #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/7kIcf4...

John Macaluso appeared as a special guest with his Off the Record project—a powerful drummer with finesse, telling a rhythmic autobiography. A few onstage hiccups only added to the charm. Maybe lightness is a drummer’s greatest strength! #progmetalmania

A traditional German prog metal band with a distinctly refined sound. The vocals were deep and elegant (when not screaming)—carrying that stereotypical “German” character in both tone and delivery. #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/2b1Sjo...

Obsidious: A band spun off from Obscura, and still, firmly in the tech-death realm. The guitars had that classic tight-yet-complex tone, filled with intricate runs and sweeping melodies. The bass even got some solid solo moments—great stuff! #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/5hLvNN...

F.K.Ü. was anything but prog—pure, classic thrash! 🤘 With heavy horror-movie-style makeup, soaring high-pitched vocals, nonstop pogoing and circle pits, and non-stop “hey hey hey!” energy, it was chaos in the best possible way. Total fun! #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/4PC6WD...

The vibe finally turned darker—Vulkan was one of the my favorite bands of the fest! More post than prog: sorrowful vocals, intricate 3-part harmonies , dramatic tempo shifts, and guitars that avoid traditional tones with textures and walls of sound. #progmetalmania open.spotify.com/track/5XUHoe...

#progmetalmania Loch Vostok: their vocal was classic and stylized—maybe a bit too “old-school”—but solid. The overall sound leans toward melodic death or thrash, with that distinct Swedish flavor. open.spotify.com/track/3mtKU9...

#progmetalmania Ihlo is a fresh, modern Scottish band blending djent with electronic-infused prog. Tight grooves, dynamic contrast, and perfect rhythmic chemistry—music that moves you, literally. I loved their set and can’t wait for the new album! open.spotify.com/track/04nqkn...

#progmetalmania : Kicking off with a hometown band from Munich! Jester's Tears is more power metal than prog, with occasional hints of classical flair. I even caught shades of some Japanese power metal. The vocalist had great energy and stage presence! open.spotify.com/track/1UwTo4...

Just attended the 1st #progmetalmania in Munich (progmetalmania.com) in the weekend—honestly the best festival I’ve ever been to 🤘! Intimate crowd, conference vibes 🤓, and met so many great people. Huge thanks to #theprogspace! Starting tomorrow: one band a day under #FomalhautListens! #progsky

Huhta: I’m truly in love with Portuguese Fado. Prog-folk band A Presença das Formigas' Pé de Vento features complex rhythms and shifting tonalities, but Dá-me o Amanhã beautifully captures that unmistakable Fado spirit. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/3QXks0...

Huhta: Southern Empire’s 2023 release was my April favorite—epic, exhilarating, and beautifully crafted. White Shadows in particular transitions from symphonic grandeur to classic prog metal to electronic vibes. What a ride! #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/3ELOem...

Xianjing Chen is a rising star in Taiwan’s new music scene! And I actually first heard her on Bluesky before our friend Fangzhou's KeyChange Podcast featured her. Her album is stylistically diverse—my pick is this rockier one. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/1CjKw3...

Today’s pick: jazz legend Herbie Hancock’s early gem—Empyrean Isles (1964)! Humbug: Feels like he debuted already maxed out with top-tier gear 🤣 #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/20jyBV...

Our lyric video for "Vimalakirti" is out now! It features beautiful scrolls from the Sutra, and some rare glimpses into our band's journey through the years! Come experience the story, the music, and the spirit behind the song. Full video here: youtu.be/NFXzfg7CmRg?... ✨ #ProgMetal #MusicSky

Humbug: The vibe is a bit like Thank You Scientist, with some Animals as Leaders in the instrumental section, and a bit of Nu Jazz from recent years. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/3nr4oL...

started listening Vimalakirti (维摩) 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 “Vimalakirti” is now on neodb.social! 🎧✨ We’d love to hear what you think—drop your thoughts, interpretations, or favorite moments in the comments there! Let’s grow this community together 💬🤘

Italian prog legends Goblin’s 1977 Suspiria—a soundtrack for the cult horror film. Humbug: Baroque meets psychedelic rock! MadPig: Love this track—and the film too! #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/0DrihQ...

Toehider's 47min single album in 2022! Madpig: It has the skin of Queen, Styx, and Vince DiCola; the bones of Edge of Sanity; the soul of Hendrix and Zappa; and the flesh and blood of every progger you can think of. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/5Qsdx2...

Huhta: Balkan folk + prog + jazz: Ellipsis Quintet is a standout example of blending folk roots into progressive rock. Home Not is my favorite track from their 2024 album—deeply moving and masterfully crafted. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/5ZvgVq...

Huhta: Nospūn’s new EP Ozai revisits songs from 10 years ago with fresh recordings. Their last album Opus was one of my favorites in recent years. This lead single captures it all—brutal riffs, soaring melodies, and proggy twists. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying open.spotify.com/track/1eDAcI...

Huhta: It’s Cheeto’s Magazine again! Their new single dropped end of 2024—five years since the last album. Same iconic vibe: big classic Roland synths, and this time even a vocoder! Can’t wait for the full-length release. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying

Huhta: FangZhou(方舟)'s KeyChange podcast introduced WastedLaika(丢莱卡) to me. The new album feels a bit packed, but the title song Red Dragonfly stands out—touches of post-punk in there. The lyrics are poetic and profound—definitely worth a closer listen. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying

Huhta: IQ, founded in the '80s, is still releasing albums—wow. Compared to typical neo-prog, Dominion leans more into classic prog, especially this epic 22-min track. I’m especially into its musical theatre-like sectional structure. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying

Huhta: This one’s actually from MadPig’s pick—a neatly structured sonata form with a touching recapitulation. Caught it live at last year’s Night of the Prog—impressive stage presence, outfits, and a beautifully crafted piece overall. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying

Huhta: "Ocean" is the most stunning track on OU’s second album for me! Feels like a perfect counterpart to “Mountain” from their debut—same structure, and each phrase seems to mirror the other. The connection is beautiful. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying

Huhta: Steven Wilson returns fully to classic prog! This new album: Disc 1 has just two long tracks; Disc 2 splits them into segments. To keep the story intact, I went with the full 23-min version here. Sit back and enjoy a glimpse of Earth—from outer space.

Time for prog metal! Germany’s underrated but brilliant The Hirsch Effekt brings it with “Agnoise.” Huhta: Clean/scream vocals hit hard, djent grooves + wild arrangements. Madpig: from the intense life, clearly it's a lineup that’s stuck together through it all!

Nu Delhi (Album): Bloodywood. Huhta: it counts as a good piece of Indian folk metal. There are bits of non-dodecaphonic, folk instruments and Carnatic folk vocals but they don't feel abused. There's even a piece feat. BABYMETAL 😱 #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying

Mayor of Yonggong Street: Tom Chang is a legendary Taiwanese pop singer, but this track leans into prog. Humbug: His approach to fusion runs musical elements aren’t just symbolic, but fully integrated with the lyrics and theme. Truly visionary. #FomalhautListens

🔥 What’s Fomalhaut Listening To? One track a day. No algorithms, just raw taste. From tomorrow on. Fresh finds, deep cuts, and stuff we can’t stop spinning. Hit follow and vibe with us. #FomalhautListens #NowPlaying

We're absolutely thrilled and grateful to @theprogspace.bsky.social for featuring our new release "Vimalakirti" in their What's Hot playlist! 🔥🎧 Huge thanks for the support and for helping us share our music with more amazing listeners! 🙏 bsky.app/profile/thep...

Just found out Bandcamp added supports to link with Bluesky: blog.bandcamp.com/2025/03/17/n... It lets us use our bandcamp home page's DNS as atproto handle. However, we already have our own domain names (even two!) But still looking forward to more from bandcamp! Thanks! @bandcamp.com

Slowly ditching the fomalhautband.com domain, to use the new one fomalhaut.band ! I used to be obsessed with .com or .net etc domain, but bluesky taught me that a dedicated top level domain could be much cooler! and meaningful! We are not a commercial site, we are a band! Why not .band! :D

We're shifting away from X, FB, and IG for promotion and focusing more on ATProto-based networks, bandcamp... Honestly, it's a challenge, and we'd love to hear your thoughts! Do you have any suggestions? Any platforms or strategies you’d recommend? Let’s figure it out together! #musicpromotion

In 2 weeks!! On March 28th, we're releasing our new single "Vimalakirti"! Inspired by late '90s and early 2000s progressive metal, it features odd time signatures, extended voicings, polymeters, intricate instrumentation, and soaring vocals. Contact us for premieres and media exposure!

We did an experiment asking Rudy, a popular music reaction creator known for sarcastic roasting style, to review our last single, Hourglass I. As expected, his feedback wasn’t that positive—but no surprise! It perfectly aligns with the "more is more" philosophy we embrace in prog music. 😉 #progrock
