It’s actually just not possible to spend this much money. Previous efforts to rapidly grow the Border Patrol and CBP led to decades of corruption. This is a recipe for corruption on a giant scale.

💯👇 "Most people prefer to associate food with comfort, joy, and their grandmother’s kitchen, not the boiling of the planet. In general, it helps to focus on the appeal of the meals, rather than their lack of meat; people want to feel like they’re getting something, not being denied something."

There's never been a more urgent moment to bear witness, to speak truth before it's too late. 🗣️Wise words from our Executive Director @jbennettguess.bsky.social

Hi, I’m autistic and I’m the mayor of my city.

I put a hold on Ed Martin’s nomination. He’s denied elections. Fired quality public servants. Attempted to chill free speech. Turns out he’s also carrying water for the Kremlin. So wholly unfit to be a U.S. Attorney.

Proud to have my first piece in the Contrarian! On Fascism and the English Language.

🚨BREAKING: Judge finds flying migrants to El Salvador after orders not to "demonstrate a willful disregard for its Order, sufficient for the Court to conclude that probable cause exists to find the Government in criminal contempt." Visit www.democracydocket.com for full details and analysis.

Once more, if you're going to defeat fascism, you cannot pretend the foe you face is inflation.

I just landed in San Salvador a little while ago, and I look forward to meeting with the team at the U.S. embassy to discuss the release of Mr. Abrego Garcia. I also hope to meet with Salvadoran officials and with Kilmar himself. He was illegally abducted and needs to come home.

Trump has announced he's going to "overhaul" the $1 trillion a year federal procurements process. What could possibly go wrong, especially since he recently suggested he doesn't have to follow the Administrative Procedure Act & just announces his desired changes? www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-st...

Thank you for your leadership and recognizing the urgency of this dangerous moment for our democracy and the rule of law, Senator @vanhollen.senate.gov. Are your elected officials doing everything in their power to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia home? Make sure they hear from you today.

No matter what the markets do, the dollar has lost 10% of its value since the Trump tariff dance.

every one of these deregulated markets guys is a regulated market guy who hasn’t been punched in the face yet

Stock markets down badly today on the shocking revelation from Jerome Powell that tariffs might be bad for the US economy

When the average person is confronted with how their actions have hurt someone, they respond with compassion and care. A lot of the time, they rush to change their behavior. But perpetrators--or anyone else abusing their power --will respond with something researchers call DARVO. 🧵

Didn’t get a chance to post this earlier, but there was a huge turnout in support of Kilmar Abrego Garcia at the federal courthouse. From my seat in the jury room, I heard the supporters outside chanting throughout the hearing.

This picture may haunt me to the end of my days. It is an ICE agent taking an axe to the car window of an immigrant in New Bedford, MA. Not far from where I sit now. An immigrant with no criminal record was abducted by this smiling man. An axe taken to a car window and to our democracy. 1/ #MomSky

AOC: I saw on Fox, Jeanine Pirro says that they found so many babies and two year olds and four year olds receiving social security. I got a notice for you Jeanine Pirro: those babies receive social security because their parents died. That’s not a waste. That’s humanity. That’s America.

NEW: There have been very interesting efforts in North Carolina to give people who were sentenced to life without parole as children a shot at release. Bolts worked with Phillip Smith, who is a writer himself incarcerated in North Carolina, who tells this important story beautifully:

BREAKING: Judge Chutkan GRANTS the preliminary injunction sought by the Climate United Fund over the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund monies held by Citibank via grants the Trump admin has sought to terminate.

I suggest everyone become very, very familiar with this piece by law Professor @david.noll.org. I suspect you will be referring to it often. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/if-t...

Two recent NYT articles. I appreciate the housing crisis we are in, but these proposals always lead to the same thing. Sub-divisions that are far from city centers & 100% car dependent. If we want a livable planet, we NEED to build more density in existing cities & center transit and walkability.

There’s a word for this, and it’s called bribery.

The Trump administration justifies a lot of their racism and transphobia through “protecting women from violence.” But this is just another reminder that they’re pro-rape. And using rape victims as a shield is just another form of objectification.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia lived in Maryland with his wife and their three children, and has never been charged with any crime. The Department of Homeland Security issued him a work permit, and he joined a union, working full time as a sheet metal apprentice.

The DOJ lawyer who made the mistake of answering the court's questions about Abrego-Garcia candidly (eg yes he was mistakenly deported, a fact the Administration already has acknowledged), which got him put on administrative leave, has now been fired, ending his 15-year DOJ career..

Need this every time

We had the reporter on tonight; @maddow has the whistleblower

One of the implicit promises of fascistic misogyny is that stripping freedom from women will give men more freedom. But it's a lie. Men aren't free in a patriarchal system. And in a sex-segregated patriarchal system, they spend more of their time around other men who seek to control them.

Very little surprises me, but I *am* surprised, shocked, bewildered, flabberfuckinggasted that our elected officials aren’t holding emergency press conferences right now. If we continue like this, we don’t continue…they get that right? RIGHT????!!

Judge Xinis in Tuesday eve order homes in on key issue: "Abrego Garcia appears to remain inexplicably detained in CECOT." She cites text in written agreement with El Salvador showing US control: That detainees are kept in CECOT “pending the United States’ decision on their long-term disposition.”

In new statement on Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Maryland's Senator Chris Van Hollen says: "It should be a priority of the U.S. government to secure his safe release, which is why tomorrow I am traveling to El Salvador."

Let’s be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

We're holding a town hall for our GOP Rep. John McGuire! McGuire isn’t doing his job! He’s unwilling to face his own constituents because he’s afraid of what we’ll ask. Make your voice heard anyway! Saturday, April 26th, 3-4:30pm. Details and tickets here: bit.ly/4ju3Ai2

I want to tell you why the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia should matter to you. The one power you cannot give the executive is the ability to imprison or expel anyone regardless of their legal rights. That is our key check against autocracy. And we are watching it disappear.
