“Just calm down and let people enjoy chatgpt.” Sorry, no. I find it creepy that folks are treating a machine that mimics human speech as their friend / therapist. It is feeding you lies. It is destroying your thinking abilities. Shut it off. Talk to other humans. Go outside.

Someone learned a lesson

I am once again begging people to realize that the law is words on paper and is not self executing. "That's illegal" is not and has never been synonymous with "that's impossible" or "that can't be done." "That's illegal" means "you might get in trouble for that depending on who you are."

Happy "A french bookstore fights Bree & then everyone else in publishing on the internet while Notre Dame burns" day to all who celebrate it.

Bruce is posing like he just got elected to the board of Dog, Incorporated

What?! How did I not know this?

Ok. What’s some weird regional shit I should try when I’m in the UK? My goal is to eat weird crisp flavors and I want to get an Irn Bru in Scotland. What else should I be looking to try? What’s the London equivalent of RC cola? What’s a snack cake you only find in the north?

Cardiff folks!

Allow my buns to demonstrate all of the key bun positions 🐇🐇

A thread of notes I've made in my notebook about my dad: 1. The Swimming Pool.

Woke up and couldn’t move my right leg. I freaked out for about 10 seconds before realizing there’s just a fat cat sleeping on it

That feeling when you are ready to swap your first-born for a really crisp lettuce (Rapunzel, 1968) Artist: Eric Winter

The face of a villain who thought FOUR FORTY FIVE AY EM was an appropriate time to get me up for breakfast.

When I was a kid, evangelical Christians were losing their entire minds over bar codes being the Mark of the Beast. You may not remember this because absolutely nothing came of it. Make Evangelical Nonsense Irrelevant Again.

FOSSIL HELP: I found this lying on the beach at Hunstanton and it looks very tooth-like to me. Am I just kidding myself? Any ideas what it might be?

There is so much wrong with this. One is that “healthy” means “having a robust immune system” and you know who doesn’t have a robust immune system because they haven’t been exposed? Children, particularly infants and toddlers.

Has this happened to you or anyone you know? Please let the folks at @sydmorningherald.bsky.social know here: [email protected] (PS anyone thinking about travelling to the US should read this and spend their money elsewhere)

TIL that the scientific name for Llama is Lama Glama and that is very silly and I love it.

Hey, just a quiet reminder: it’s not true that people get more conservative as they age. *Populations* get more conservative as they age because poor and marginalized people die sooner. nymag.com/intelligence...

This. An emergency recall of parliament on a weekend for British Steel. Nothing at all for UK HE which employs far more people, has already shed 10,000 academic jobs, with several institutions on the brink of collapse. A reminder: we train all the doctors, teachers, engineers, nurses, lawyers &c &c

And now I am at the library and I went to the front desk to get some help looking up a very specific list of books and she just... pulled up... ChatGPT?!!?? a) I could have done that myself if it wasn't my enemy and b) ALL SIX BOOKS IT SUGGESTED WERE WRONG

This is a very lovely tribute to a very good boy

some shit is about to go down

More journalists need to talk about this the way Japanese articles do

This piece basically sums up the harms that can be caused by predatory consumer medical tech companies flogging the worried well tests they probably don't need. @mgtmccartney.bsky.social is really good on this kind of thing; you should read her stuff www.thetimes.com/life-style/h...

For @thefence.bsky.social I'm collecting EXTREMELY PETTY MONEY SAVING TIPS for the coming recession, eg using white bread instead of pencil erasers or buying a 1981 calendar for 2026 because the days will line up. If any of you can beat this absurdly niche example I've just been sent, I'm all ears.

There has NEVER been a #UBI study that doesn't show good, or great results

This kind of thing is so gross on so many levels

Elon Musk and a bunch of billionaires made a vast fortune from Trump’s sudden change of tariff policy? Really??? What an amazing coincidence…
