When I first learned about Colegio César Chávez in Mt. Angel, I lit up knowing such an amazing part of the Chicano movement had history here in Oregon. Today on The Evergreen: learn with us about the first accredited independent Chicano university in US history! 🇲🇽 By Mia Estrada & Alicia Avila:

"The history of Chinese immigrants in Oregon reflects the broader American immigrant experience—marked by struggle, resilience, and and lasting contributions despite the institutionalized racism they faced." -director Todd Braje Roots & Resilience: Chinese American Heritage in Oregon is now open!

#2 Everywhere but Portland is Pretty Republican. All his old friends asked him why he moved to that "shite hole" But he doesn't agree. He likes Portland better. He is 26. He served in Afghanistan. Awesome young man. Sad he has to work at Best Buy

#1 I went to Geek Squad to deal with phone/ facebook issues AGAIN. Matt wasn't able to help me. He said it might be a good time to get off FB because of the direction it was going. We both laughed. I agreed. He talked about moving to Portland from Bend and the difference of cultures.........

This Day in Labor History: February 24, 1908. The Supreme Court issued its decision in Muller v. Oregon. This landmark decision upheld the idea that, at least for women, laws restricting the hours of work were constitutional. Let's talk about this huge victory for workers rights!

The 1923 Oregon legislature was colloquially known as the "Klan legislature" because the majority of members were either Klan members or sympathizers. One bill they passed required that history education be suitably patriotic, outlawing materials that spoke "slightingly" of the founders.

1953: Truman and the Justice 🧵 One summer day, a man in a rumpled suit and hat enters Mt. St. Helens Lodge. Harry Truman notices. "Tell that old coot if he wants a cabin, we don't have any." The man leaves. Another guy tells Truman that's SC Justice William O. Douglas. “I'll be goddamn go to hell!”

I was looking for a door-to-door luggage service and remembered this advertisement on the Portland phonebook from 1913. And when did baggage become luggage?

@pdx-streetcars.bsky.social i’m wondering if you can tell me the story behind these street car tracks. They’re on Morrison by Lone Fur cemetery.

They're remnants from the Mt. Tabor line, which came along Morrison to 26th (with a stop in the cemetery). It then transitioned down to Belmont at 28th via a private right-of-way: look at the NE corner there to see how the sidewalk tapered in to accommodate the alignment of the track.
