🔥🔥🔥 Former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe was arrested for civil disobedience after speaking against a MAGA display that the city council of Huntington Beach agreed to put up at the public library…..that’s what’s up….every word👇

Chiayi Station, one of Taiwan’s major railway stations constructed during the Japanese-era that remains in operation today. Its time as one of Taiwan's busiest stations may soon be coming to an end, so if you have a chance to visit, you might want to visit soon! www.goteamjosh.com/blog/kagieki

For you foreigners who have never left Taipei, Changhua is a mostly rural county in central Taiwan. For years, I never visited because I didn't know what was there. It turns out there are quite a few attractions here in this secret paradise. taiwantravelblog.com/our-2025-gui...

Some famous Taiwanese theaters recreated in miniature: - Beidou Yuandong Theater (北斗遠東戲院), in Changhua, - The now-demolished Tianwaitian Theater (天外天劇場) in central Taichung - Jinsha Theater (金沙戲院) in Kinmen

An old Dachen Island 大陳島tradition that at least one family continued when they relocated to Taiwan.

Maolin District of Kaohsiung City is an outdoor paradise and my favorite place in Taiwan. In this mountainous district of Kaohsiung, you can find waterfalls, streams, hot springs, butterflies, aboriginal culture, and great views, all by the roadside! taiwantravelblog.com/travel-guide...

'In the late 1980s I worked near the famed elementary school in New Taipei’s Yonghe (永和區) that had over 11,000 children enrolled. That figure is not far from 10 percent of the current entering kindergarten class for the entire nation.' Xiulang Elementary School. www.taipeitimes.com/News/feat/ar...

Field notes from the former residence of a Japanese colonial era school principal from Zaoqiao, Miaoli. It was designated a heritage site in 2007 and subsequently delisted in 2017, which is highly unusual. Without protection it will surely succumb to the elements. spectralcodex.com/zaoqiao-prin...

Han cultural chauvinism at work as James Soong erases indigenous peoples from Taiwan in his claims they all came from “China” at some point. This vile construct of erasure was very prevalent under Ma in the popular KMT binary 先住民/後住民 talking points. 1/8 youtu.be/1YeoyCKLntw?...

“Love hotels are a unique and deeply ingrained part of Japanese culture,” says François Prost. “These venues have a very ‘talkative’ quality visually—they’re expressive in their design, reflecting aspects of local culture, values, and even fantasies.” www.thisiscolossal.com/2024/12/fran...

I visited the old Datong Theater in Fengtian on a bike trip in 2018, one of more than a dozen derelict theaters visited on that trip. This summer I returned and found it converted into a community event space and cafe, the only one of its kind in Hualien County. spectralcodex.com/shoufeng-fen...

We have updated our Kinmen Islands guide with more photos from our 2024 trip here. Even though this guide is not 100% done, it's a big improvement. taiwantravelblog.com/the-ultimate...

福生冰果室 A Kaohsiung recommendation. A traditional drink shop that has also appeared in a couple of movies. 天台 The Rooftop and 六弄咖啡館 At Cafe No. 6 She kept the sign from the Rooftop movie since they accidentally broke her original sign.

This dilapidated mixed-use building in Shilin District was demolished years ago, but I'm just getting around to sharing some photos of it now. If you're into some random #Taiwan #urbex content, here you go: spectralcodex.com/shilin-sanyi...

A few quick shots from the scooter apartments (機車公寓) just off Jilin Road (吉林路). The side of the building is a corkscrew ramp and tenants can drive right up to their front door all the way on the fifth floor. Convenient! 🛵

Not really into ghost stories myself, but there's a thriving subculture celebrating such macabre sites in Taiwan, so I sometimes go document these places for posterity. This one was still inhabited so there's no interior photos, but you'll get the general idea. spectralcodex.com/wuri-ghost-h...

Was at a store, and they were playing Christmas music. I'm not sure if it's "Christmas Creep" or just a regular day (in Taiwan).

The number of migrant workers in Taiwan continues to increase rapidly. There are now a total of 842,530 migrant workers if we include re-classified intermediate skilled workers. +69,009 increase so far in 2024. Here is how the number of ordinary migrant workers has increased over the last decade.

Really dig these colorful bathrooms I saw in military dependants villages in Gangshan 岡山

A brief write-up about an old rice mill and granary in a small town in rural Miaoli. The farmers' association is generally pretty good about preserving heritage sites (even those without official status), and this one was pleasant to visit on the way to Nanzhuang. spectralcodex.com/shitan-grana...
