I will never forget the photo of Zelenskyy’s face after he saw Russia’s war crimes in Bucha in 2022. He seemed to age years in an afternoon. Watching him constantly cross the world asking for aid that should have been thrown at him is one of the deepest shames of our age.

It's payday and after seeing that repulsive press conference I am donating again to Ukraine - plenty of options here: standforukraine.com

Excellent pics from @jamesbluecat.bsky.social's publication day bookshop tour yesterday - signed copies of Pagans now available all over Central London!

This has been a trying week in general, but my Old Irish class today almost tipped me over the edge. How does anyone get to grips with it? It took me 10 mins to translate one word ('ro dalsat'), and even then it was wrong.

It's @jamesbluecat.bsky.social's book launch day today, so fair warning that I may be reposting a few things... like this lovely mini-review from Waterstones Ipswich.

I either picked a really good or a really bad time to write a novel about what it means to be British and/or English. PAGANS out today in all good bookshops!

Why do I always get the feeling that the subtext to Google's "You visit often" tag is "for god's sake get a life and stop bothering military maps of 18th-century Scotland"?

An excellent post on what History is and isn't, and why we can't and won't "learn the lessons of the past" when it comes to modern politics.

Excellent free online lecture by @northernpicts.bsky.social coming up on 13th March. A must-watch for anyone with an interest in the Picts and early medieval Scotland: fellows.socantscot.org/events/detai...

Really looking forward to Richard Oram's environmental history of medieval Scotland, coming out in April. Not so keen on the cover price! #MedievalSky

Five (or more!) of the best books on Scandinavian Scotland in the #Viking Age 📚 Thanks to @highlandlilly.bsky.social for giving me the platform to write about some of the brilliant authors who have written about the #Vikings in Scotland! open.substack.com/pub/findheri...

Bit of a full-on day today: first a call with a client about military anti-GPS jamming antennas, then some Old Irish translation homework, then a call with another client about dense wave division multiplexing, then a PhD supervision meeting about the career of a seventh-century Pictish bishop.

Excellent!

OK, you haven't got a 'proper' roundhouse until you've got one with a souterrain beneath it! 😉 Late Iron Age / Pictish period #Scotland. Note the amphorae, where I infer possible trade with or, more likely, theft from Roman occupiers! © Bob Marshall / badenochstorylands.com 2020.

YESSSSS after wrestling with what is surely the world's most difficult language (Old Irish) for five months, I've actually managed to understand a whole three words I found in the wild. 'sa bliadain cétna', 'in the same year' GET IN.
