Readers testifying against SB 2101! Great group. @txfreedomread.bsky.social @freadomfighters.bsky.social @technolibrary.bsky.social @becalzada.bsky.social

Thank you to all the dedicated Tx advocates who waited 12 hours(again) to testify against public library censorship and SB2101. We 💕 your care for families who love reading.

After lots of you reached out, I added Eanes ISD to the doc. Vote for Heather Sheffield and John Troy! docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Hearing tomorrow on TX SB 2101. This bill would ban the same seventeen-year-olds who can see an R-rated movie from wandering into the general fiction section of their public library to check out Lord of the Rings. @frankstrong.bsky.social @txfreedomread.bsky.social @txfreadomfighter.bsky.social

AABB members are working on voting guides for upcoming elections! This post has candidate ratings for Eagle Mountain-Saginaw & Fort Bend, TX school board races! www.instagram.com/p/DI63tJSsOF...

Added Spring Branch ISD to the Doc! It's where I had my first teaching job, so this district is very dear to me. (Obligatory photo of me as a baby teacher below) Folks in SBISD, get out there and vote for Diana Martinez Alexander, David López, and Patricia Cabrera!

We are ONE WEEK away from school board Election Day in Texas. Texans--get informed and keep extremists off of your boards.

I’m not always nice to the public figures I write about but 1) I don’t make sh*t up, 2) I try not to misrepresent them, and 3) I document my claims meticulously. These people … do not follow those principles.

📲 📧 Call and Email the Senate State Affairs Committee to tell them why you oppose SB 2101, and ask them to do the same. Here is an email template: www.txftrp.org/oppose_sb2101

Yup. It’s nuts. Texans, call the members of the Senate State Affairs Committee and tell them so!

So let me get this straight: under this Texas bill, a 16-year-old could legally drive herself to the library, but once she gets there she’s relegated to the children’s room or barred from entry altogether? Oh, Texas, that’s nuts! 🥜

Today’s Texas School Board Race of the Day is in Humble ISD, which is home to the BLT Guide’s Worst Candidate of 2025. (That’s saying something!) That candidate is Tracy Shannon, running for the Place 4 spot, who claims responsibility for the removal of more than 1000 books from the district.

BOOOOOOOKS

We appreciate all of the indie bookstore owners who showed up to support teen readers and families by waiting 11 hours to testify on HB 1375. This bill would have been harmful to your services.

So fun celebrating with these wonderful readers after testifying against Texas HB 1375. @bookpeople.bsky.social @frankstrong.bsky.social @txfreadomfighter.bsky.social

It’s day 2 of early voting for the May school board elections, and today’s Race of the Day is in Fort Bend ISD. Why does this race matter? There are two spots up for grabs in FBISD, and they will determine the balance of power on the board for the next few years. TL;DR: Vote for Afshi and Angie.

Hey, Texas. Let’s take our f-ing school boards back. Early voting starts tomorrow. Let’s go! franklinstrong.substack.com/p/lets-take-...

Added McKinney ISD and Liberty Hill ISD to the doc. Keller and Spring Branch ISD are on deck! Early voting starts on Tuesday--make sure you know who to vote for (and who to avoid at all costs!) in your Texas school board elections.

Are you tired of the “gotcha” book banners pull where they read a shocking passage out loud at a hearing or board meeting, and if anyone objects, they use that as evidence the book doesn’t belong in schools or libraries? Here’s why that’s bad logic. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTjY7q4kd/

That’s me speaking at the #IndivisibleTX12 / @50501protest.bsky.social in downtown Fort Worth yesterday. The turnout was incredible, the speakers were 🔥, and I’m grateful they let me play a small part in it, doing my best to help people See It, Name It, Fight It #SINIFI #HandsOff #817pod #FortWorth

While the whole world is laughing at Lamar CISD for banning lessons on Virginia from its elementary school libraries because the state's flag is too hot, let me point out that HB3225--soon to be voted on in the Tx House--could bring this absurdity to public libraries statewide.
