The two-year anniversary of The Map and the Territory is coming up on 12 December--in honor of that very important birthday, let's do an AMA! (Ask Me Anything) Taking questions from people who've read it and people who haven't yet~

In these times of uncertainty it's okay to grieve the future you hoped for. The future you fought so valiantly for. Mourn it, but do not abandon the Work left to do in its loss.

The best defense is often a good offense. Don't pull your punches when enforcing your boundaries.

The danger is real. The fear is real. The ruinous pull of despair is real. But warm sun on an autumn afternoon is also real. Hearty soup is real. Purring cats are real. The laughter of your friends is real. When times feel at their darkest, remember the reality you're fighting for. Hope is real.πŸ—‘οΈ

We'll get through this the same way we've always gotten through trying times. Stick together, choose hope, and fight like hell. πŸ—‘οΈπŸ’œ

Despair is uncomplicated. The answer to every question narrows and sharpens to a simple "what's the point?" Hope, however, is messy. If we're going to believe that things could ever get better, that means we've still got work to do. Dust yourself off, crack your knuckles, and let's get to it.

Heroism isn't limited to the knight driving a sword through the heart of the wicked dragon. It also shines in the smith who forged the weapon, the healer who tended their wounds, the innkeep who gave them a bowl of stew. We need more than just dragonslayers. Look for where you can help.

When the only certainty is the difficulty of the path ahead, it's all too easy to be frozen in despair. But walk it we must. Even if you only take one step today - clean your desk, or eat a meal, or do some stretches - take one single step. Tomorrow, another. Together, we'll hit our stride.

Remember that anger is a good spark but not a sustainable source of fuel. Don't neglect the things and people you love. Stay compassionate, reach out to others, and rest when you can. Do this for your morale. Hold onto what you cherish, because they give all of this meaning.

The work is still the work, even if the work is harder now. We resist state-sanctioned injustice, we support our neighbors, we make beautiful things that inspire or comfort or trouble. The work will always be the work.

Right. Here's your to-do list for the next two months to put you in the best possible position to survive what's coming: 1. Renew your passport (or apply for a passport) this week even if it is not expiring in the next four years. Renewing early will give you the maximum 10-year validity period.

It's okay to not be okay right now. It's okay to be scared, or angry, or numb. Don't run from these emotions. Embrace them. You feel so strongly because you care so much. Let that love keep you fighting, for yourself and those you hold dear. I'm still trying. πŸ’œ
