Americans Believe Russian Disinformation ‘To Alarming Degree’ "Republicans were, though, more likely to believe Russian disinformation claims than their Democratic counterparts, with 57.6% falling for at least one Russian disinformation claim, compared with just 17.9% of Democrats."

It's Independent Bookstore Day, so remember that red states are pushing bills that would force booksellers to cover displays related to pride, hide books like "1984" and effectively ban "Banned Book" sections — all under the guise of protecting minors from "pornography" www.msn.com/en-us/news/u...

Happy Independent Bookstore Day 📚 Not everyone can always get to their library. It’s important for kids, for people to build their home libraries. To discover books they love so much they reread them over and over and over again. Enter one of the library’s greatest friends… the indie bookstore 💛

We are ONE WEEK away from school board Election Day in Texas. Texans--get informed and keep extremists off of your boards.

Please support your Texas indie bookstores today! They have protected libraries and served our communities!

It’s day 2 of early voting for the May school board elections, and today’s Race of the Day is in Fort Bend ISD. Why does this race matter? There are two spots up for grabs in FBISD, and they will determine the balance of power on the board for the next few years. TL;DR: Vote for Afshi and Angie.

And if you want to say "no" in person, come to the State Affairs committee hearing Monday at 9 a.m. in the Senate Chamber, and support public libraries.

Texas friends - do you want public library access censored? A bill up for the Senate State Affairs Committee would require restrictions for teens. Please contact members of the committee and say no! #bookbans

Texas librarians- please check your email!

TX Senate version of this bill(SB2101) has a hearing on Monday in the State Affairs committee. Calling for public library advocates, authors, librarians, etc. to come testify for the State Affairs hearing on Monday. #bookbans @authorsabb.bsky.social @oif.bsky.social @txfreedomread.bsky.social

We are highly concerned about efforts in FL House to remove one of the prongs of the Miller test in book reconsideration - the important one of literary merit that the Supreme Court recognizes. Thanks @flfreedomread.bsky.social for your work opposing.

We applaud this veto by North Dakota's Republican governor of a library age restriction bill - which he says “represents a misguided attempt to legislate morality through overreach and censorship.” (similar bill is being discussed in Tx) www.nytimes.com/2025/04/24/u...

Saving democracy starts at the local level.

New bill threatens to ban or restrict books in Tx bookstores!‼️ www.chron.com/politics/art...

We appreciate all of the indie bookstore owners who showed up to support teen readers and families by waiting 11 hours to testify on HB 1375. This bill would have been harmful to your services.

If you think that bookstores should not be required to censor their stores which TX HB1375 would require, please submit written testimony. Texans, scroll to the bottom of this page to submit written remarks by tomorrow. If nothing else, just ask for a NO vote. capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/...

"Our librarians are really creating that window and mirror for students in the library, and for parents, and being very cognizant about the collections--making sure that it's representative of the of the community to have accurate portrayals of history within the library." #AASLslm

We love seeing how local communities are coming out to support their libraries due to cuts at IMLS. This one in Vermont www.middleburycampus.com/article/2025...

Libraries are pretty great, aren't they?

A lot of people seem to think following the U.S. Constitution is optional—like picking which shoes to wear in the morning. It’s not. If you’re within the boundaries of the United States, the Constitution applies to you.

Shout out to PEN America, ACLU of Tennessee, the families, the authors, and Rutherford County Library Alliance for fighting back in Rutherford County, TN. #BanHateNotBooks @la-cac.org pen.org/press-releas...

Cannot begin to quantify for folks out of state how bad this Texas legislative session is looking for learning in this state. All forms and levels of learning: public schools, colleges and universities, public libraries.

This bill has many problems. Imagine your public librarian id-ing you at the door. Imagine walled off areas of your library. Imagine teens not being able to do their homework in the adult nonfiction section. Call your own state rep this week to vote no on HB3225. Teens deserve access.

Bad. Despite the voucher debate, the Tx State Affairs committee met and voted FOR HB3225. This bill would require public libraries to have age restrictions and cordone off parts of the library as inaccessible to teens. @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social @penamerica.bsky.social @everylibrary.bsky.social

Florida! Rise up! Our friends @flfreedomread.bsky.social have made it easy for you to contact your representatives! See their post below!

"Pressure groups and government entities that include elected officials, board members and administrators initiated 72% of demands to censor books in school and public libraries, according to ALA’s report." Only 16% came from parents! @slj.com @txfreedomread.bsky.social www.slj.com/story/newsfe...

“Our experience in Texas has been the opposite. We are not seeing a decrease in efforts to censor books...We're actually seeing things ramping up." #bookbans @frankstrong.bsky.social @txfreedomread.bsky.social @slj.com www.slj.com/story/newsfe...

Wild. Please read this latest Texas absurdity.

😢

Tx HB3225 would create age restrictions at public libraries for readers under 18. It’s the parent’s right to decide that, not the state’s.

@txfreedomread.bsky.social @freadomfighters.bsky.social Waiting ALL day to testify our two minutes against TX HB 3552.

UPDATE: Was at the Capitol for 13 hrs yesterday to oppose the anti-library HB3225. 47 people signed up to speak–the majority opposing the bill. 883 people left public comments, and those opposing the bill were eloquent, thoughtful, and impassioned. Here’s my testimony: www.tiktok.com/t/ZTj89MRFX/

Man, our institutions need to form an "alert circle"

This is the slippery slope of censorship in the name of fealty.

At one page in length, HB 549 was supposed to be an unserious, little bill to massage a big ego. HB 549 does not force their immediate removal as the original version of the bill did, but it does forbid the purchase of new copies of these books in their current editions.

🧵 As part of a work thing, I recently spent some time listening to an AI expert (an academic and author), and ever since I’ve been ruminating on questions I didn’t think quickly enough to ask. The session didn’t fundamentally shift my viewpoint on AI, but it did serve a lot of food for thought.

Today Texans from all ages spoke up effectively on issues with HB3225 at the State Affairs hearing. #txlege
