"... like a bunch of dominos falling over these icecliffs just topple. We've seen that in Jakobshavn glacier... these immense ice cliffs 30km long just BOOM - if that really plays out at large scale around Antarctica we're grossly underestimating the amount of sea level rise" @timnaish.bsky.social

Another aspect of motonormativity is how car crashes are used in fiction as a deus ex machina way to get rid of characters without explanation. Everyone from the writer to the viewer understands that being killed by a car is just something that happens from time to time, outside anyone's control

The hatred of critical thinking is killing us.

HOT RESEARCH NEWS! Motonormativity ("car brain") is a bias that stops people making rational judgements about driving en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motonor... Our new study shows where this bias comes from AND how it makes people think they're odd for supporting changes to the transport system 🧵

"Our research highlights an inconvenient truth, if you will, for politicians and businesspeople alike: we can’t simply depend on corporations and markets to address one of the gravest threats to our collective future" - @chriswrightau.bsky.social & Daniel Nyberg hbr.org/2017/11/how-...

Interesting results from a French survey on climate policy support: most policies (even costly ones) are supported by a majority (often substantially). ➡️ The climate backlash is likely driven by populist leaders (and those reproducing their narratives) more so than by people's anti-green attitudes

Was kommt jetzt? #Wahl2025 www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyWu... @wzb.bsky.social

Open Access UCL Research: Policy measures to reduce road congestion: what worked? discovery.ucl.ac.uk/id/eprint/10...

tl;dr: Restrictions to vehicle ownership tend to reduce congestion. Measures to reduce road use demand are more effective when combined with measures to improve public transport. (Policy measures to reduce road congestion: What worked? - ScienceDirect) www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Once you recognize that widening roads always leads to more congestion, the case for (de)congestion pricing + transit investment is obvious. But if you need a study, here's a study: ssti.us/2025/02/03/c...

Unless Ralph Keeling's team gets some funding, you won't be able to see this record for much longer. The continuation of the iconic Keeling curve is under threat.

Our new paper is now out in the Journal of Transport Geography. We use Space Syntax measures (along with other factors) to look at what sorts of routes cyclists using Strava choose.

The latest Copernicus data confirms that Jan. 2025 was officially the warmest Jan. on record globally, with temps 1.75°C above pre-industrial levels. This was the 18th month out of the last 19 where global temps exceeded 1.5°C. Even the the cooling La Niña conditions couldn't slow this trend.

Congestion pricing seems to have triggered a surge in Manhattan pedestrian activity: “Nearly 36M people last month were in areas south of 60th Street in Manhattan, a 4.6% boost from January 2024.” (The increase was 1.6% outside the zone.) Suggests retail sales are growing within the zone, too.

Getting the 7.30 bus and it isn’t dark!! Small things…

Wow. Last month wasn't just a usual hottest January on record. Despite cool La Niña conditions, it was *even hotter* than last years record-breaking El Niño January! Graph by @hausfath.bsky.social

“Hypernormalisation” is a real danger, and we can’t let it happen. If we accept false realities as normal, we lose the ability to see the truth and challenge what’s wrong. It’s important to stay aware and push back before it’s too late.

Leadership is about doing what's right even if it’s not politically easy. That's why I led the fight to make congestion pricing a reality—better buses & subways, less noise & traffic, and cleaner air.
