I always shock my students a bit when I tell them that quantitative data is just qualitative data that has already been interpreted numerically.

Wait. It gets worse: "The new document states that the revenues will be directed to a fund in which the United States holds 100 percent financial interest, and that Ukraine should contribute to the fund until it reaches $500 billion....The US has allocated $119 billion for aid to Ukraine."

Several good things are happening according r/fednews so I am going to drop them here. If federal workers are fighting back, how much more us? A thread/

Please for the love of Dog get off X, people. You're not resisting. You're supporting a fascist.

“With him business acumen” lol. I love how so many people haven’t been paying attention at all. Just because “line go up” does not equal business acumen.

No shit?

What the fuck is wrong with Democrats

Who made this?!

There might be some hope?

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later). Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

Quite the consequential Friday night massacre. They not only took out three top military leaders, but also the JAG officers who interpret what’s lawful and constitutional for military command.

Earthquake near Vancouver, BC

I don’t know if JF was actually always like this, but this type of thing can happen to a person after a stroke. If so the old JF is gone.

Condé Nast management will start requiring employees to be in the office 4 days a week on 3/3, allegedly to make us more productive. Yet for months, many of us have gone without desks, often being forced to work from the cafeteria, HR floor or hallways.

Three online "news" stories published this week that include quotes from me that I didn't say. But I didn't do interviews and get misquoted. And they're not written by actual journalists. My best guess is there are massive amounts of AI slop getting posted as news and now I'm part of it. 😬

Coinbase says that the SEC has agreed to drop the enforcement case against the company. It only cost them $75 million in political contributions.

Trump's SEC and DOJ dismissing lawsuits against crypto scammers and Musk's companies is too on the nose.

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.

Time to unleash the Stewart.

Over on X, simple tweets by my colleague Greg Bluestein of the Atlanta Journal Constitution have been blocked. They were nothing but video of a town hall held by Rep. Rich McCormick R-GA where he was asked questions about DOGE

Is it me or are there a lot of similarities between early 1930s Germany and the United States right now?

“You won’t have to vote again”

That is an excellent point.

Worth emphasizing that this cartoon was published by *opponents* of Jackson, and it was intended as criticism. Unlike the current occupant of the White House, who *refers to himself* as a monarch.

This session Oregon House Democrats are fighting to make utilities more affordable for Oregonians. One of our proposals has a public hearing tomorrow in the Commerce & Consumer Protection Committee — learn more about the Fair Energy Act here: #ORleg #ORpol

Still ashamed that she was “my” Rep for a term.

fwiw this was also more or less true of German fascism

This is wild. Just wild. The subways aren’t perfect, but they’re a fucking NYC institution.

obsessed with the reacher guy being a resistance lib wine mom in the body of a silverback gorilla.

What’s happening with the US government reminds me of this story (great book btw): Libertarians took over a town in NH in 2004 and gutted its services, cut taxes, etc. Less than 8 yrs later things had gotten so bad that black bears were breaking into homes and killing people for the first time ever.

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

BREAKING: The US Internal Revenue Service will lay off about 6,700 employees on Thursday, in a restructuring that could strain the tax-collecting agency's resources during the critical tax-filing season, a person familiar with the matter said reut.rs/4gI5Ss4

Trump can fuck all the way off. He doesn’t get to rewrite history. “Take these seeds and put them in your pockets, so at least sunflowers [Ukrainian national flower] will grow when you all lie down here.” — Ukrainian Woman to Russian soldiers. Russia invaded Ukraine, February 24, 2022.

Wired knows how to write a headline

My U.S. Rep, a Democrat, held a town hall and explicitly said that THE REASON she was speaking out louder now was because she got so many calls and emails. DEFINITELY YELL AT THEM. It’s the only language they speak. It’s literally how they gauge public opinion.
