Few people as emotionally stunted as the "radically honest". The actual purpose of radical honesty is not to say the unsayable—which will always outrun us—but to discredit it; to declare the said's conquest of it, lest it guide our actions in ways that surprise us.

Sorry to lib out but I’m basically sympathetic to the democrats’ argument that they can’t get as much done because they abide political guardrails that trump ignores, and that this is worthwhile even (or especially) if trump destroys those guardrails.

Sort of a telling misread of the social dynamics at play here. The kids I knew in HS who most resembled these DOGE people were smart and politically engaged. They weren’t shoving nerds into lockers, they were running cross country and making “god emperor trump” memes with plausible deniability.

Reading Paul Schrader’s book on transcendental style and he talks about the pact made by moviegoers, that like a church service one does not leave half an hour in because they’re bored. Sort of gets at my frustration with audiences holding work at arms length, giggling as if they know better
