Rhetoric is strikingly simillar to the Nazi-Soviet invasions of Poland. The Nazis claimed Poland was opressing German speakers, while Stalin announced a liberation campaign of Ukrainians and Belorusians from evil Polish capitalists. Ukraine started it and should suffer the outcome if non-compliant.

I enjoy narrative pop history as much as the next person, but when it comes to the Crusades, Dan Jones is as apologetic as they come toward the Latin West while also displaying a very spotty knowledge of the Eastern Romans. I would have at least expected him to refer to them as Byzantines 🧵
