Kansas Senate, House make deal to weaken role of governors when filling political vacancies | via @kansascarpenter.bsky.social #ksleg

PSAKI TO DEMS: “Schumer’s party is so mad at him he had to cancel his book tour — maybe it’s time to start thinking about new messengers.”

NY POST EDITORIAL BOARD; “Elon Musk is way out of his lane in cheering a bid to impeach federal Judge James Boasberg… the rule of law must hold.” nypost.com/2025/03/16/o...

I’ll be on @maddow.msnbc.com at around 9:45 Eastern talking about this story 📺

All this crap by Sec’y of the Treas Scott Bessent about not being worried about the markets “in the long term” is just pathetic. In the long term, as Keynes said in 1923, we’re all dead.

It. Is. Bezos. Shitting. On. The. Front. page. Of. His. Once. Great. Paper.

Wrong!

Trump and DOGE are dismantling Social Security— firing thousands of SSA employees and shuttering offices. Why? Because they don't want one of the govt's most successful programs to work. They want to pave the way for privatization so Wall Street can gamble with our retirement.

Millions of Americans — especially seniors, small businesses, and rural communities — rely daily on USPS's affordable rates and universal service. Privatization would make the mail more expensive and less reliable — all to enrich the billionaire class. We cannot let it happen.

Good Lord. Latest from US Institute of Peace:

The Environmental Protection Agency plans to eliminate its scientific research arm, firing as many as 1,155 chemists, biologists, toxicologists and other scientists, according to documents reviewed by Democrats on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/c...

Trump supporters, led by Ben Shapiro, are pushing to pardon Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of killing George Floyd. Big flag: Chauvin cannot be pardoned for state crimes. Chauvin will still be in prison if Trump acts. And the 22.5-year state conviction is a longer sentence than the federal case.

@benjaminwittes.bsky.social in The Situation discusses how President Trump's destruction of Voice of America also destroys America’s role as the face of democracy and freedom around the world.

Republicans are now going to attempt to impeach the judges who rule against the felon's actions.

Are you better off now than you were 8 weeks ago?

“It was also unclear if Starlink communications were encrypted. At a minimum, the system allows for a network separate from existing White House servers that people on the grounds are able to use, keeping that data separate…” www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/u...

New in PN: Trump claims to be the arbiter of Jewish identity "Trump is not fighting for Jewish people; he is not the defender of Jewish people. He is a fascist bigot. He’s coming for leftists, for Palestinians, and for Jewish people first. There’s a poem about where that ends."

The DOJ is arguing, on behalf of the President, that the President can scoop up anyone, put them on an airplane, and then no laws apply because no court has jurisdiction. Whether the person is a citizen wouldn't change that because there's no point they could even tell a court they're a citizen.

It feels like a lot of centrist pundits are rallying around Schumer because they feel the lesson of 2024 was that pushing out the ineffective older guy didn't work, instead of that they probably should've pushed him out earlier to get the new crew organized sooner.

A Wisconsin Trump voter is questioning his MAGA support after ICE deported his Peruvian wife upon returning from their honeymoon. Earlier this month, a Trump supporter in Virginia was racially profiled and interrogated by ICE agents with their guns drawn.

What could possibly go wrong? www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/u...

If Vladimir Putin had a plan to foul our air and water, wreck public health and drive America over the cliff of irreversible lethal climate change, it would look exactly like Lee Zeldin’s plan. This is a plan for self-inflicted environmental disaster. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I want someone in Texas who supports putting the Ten Commandments in every classroom, courthouse and truck stop to explain why there's no placefor the Beatitudes or the Good Samaritan. Why is it better to teach children not to covet their neighbors' slaves than to love their neighbor as themselves?

When people talk about "American Exceptionalism" they now usually mean that Americans are exceptionally bad a running a country.

Rally in April in Lancaster city!

So it appears DOGE has decreed that Social Security administration will no longer provide phone support. At all. This is in addition to shutting down a ton of local SSA offices. www.axios.com/2025/03/17/s...

This is a deeply unwell person who doesn’t belong anywhere near the levers of power. The demonstrations against Musk and at Tesla showrooms and elsewhere are acts of patriotism. www.usatoday.com/story/news/p...

Today the Trump administration upped the ante by overtly treating federal judicial orders as optional. Once these thugs apply the same approach to the United States Supreme Court, expect the political shit to hit the fan. open.substack.com/pub/robertre...

2024 was the worst year of my life. My little brother died and then the election happened. But I think it’s helping me weather 2025. I’m learning the importance of making room for joy in my life even when things are awful. I hope you all find time for joy, too. So, here’s a 🧵 of joyous things:

“A New York Times review of the flight data showed that none of the planes in question landed in El Salvador before the judge’s order and that one of them did not even leave American soil until after the judge’s written order was posted online.” www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/u...

Quite the headline.

“Instead of taking a wait-and-see approach, those in higher ed need to stand up for themselves as a united front and make the case that an attack on one is an attack on all.”

Trump Admin appears to be defying court orders halting removal of immigrants. I’ll discuss with Jonathan Capehart at 10:20 pm ET on @MSNBC.

You guys remember when President Biden revoked Secret Service protection from Don, Eric, and Ivanka? NO? It's because he didn't. Because he's not a petty ass. trump, on the other hand, has removed it from Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, because being President was never about helping Americans.

I am begging blue state governors to have lunch this week with your adjutant general of the National Guard. Cannot stress enough how important this relationship is going to be in the near future.

I’m totally fine with deporting gang members who commit crimes who don’t have legal status. I just don’t want Tom Homan or an ICE agent grabbing anyone off the street and flying them to a prison in El Salvador while claiming they are all of those things with zero due process.

We are very far over the cliff here folks

The path to this: - There was a pandemic that spurred development of an mRNA vaccine - But the pandemic hurt the economy in an election year so the sitting president stoked distrust in medical experts to dissuade people from protections that hurt the economy - They extended the distrust to the vax

Understand that this El Salvador gulag deportation was done partly in order to make the fascist video that the president now transmits, with his fascist message. The cameras are all set up in advance.
