The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.

Sharing Dorothy Thompson’s wonderful essay for those who haven’t read it. Informative and beautifully written. harpers.org/archive/1941...

I hate Hakeem Jeffries so much it's unreal. Worst alum of my law school, including Giuliani, because at least Giuliani's shenanigans are entertaining

hard to believe that our public institutions are suddenly behaving in a manner that many many people have been warning is the logical endpoint of a capitalist government for a hundred years

Is this not a quintessential content based prior restraint on speech by a government actor? Maybe even viewpoint based

i mean, fuck

I’d personally be so embarrassed if I decided to ignore a genocide because I thought it would win me an election but instead it lost me one so it turned out I ignored a genocide for no reason.

I probably would have been writing a ton about Project 2025 in 2024 if it were not for the genocide. I'm sure that's true about a ton of the best policy researchers out there. The impact of Democratic Party-backed genocide comes through in a thousand different ways that are largely not measurable

The sad truth is that many Americans already understand that sexual violence is a core feature of incarceration and simply think a different set of people should be subjected to it.

Ohhh this explains everything. The one on the Seattle City Council must be Dark Sara Nelson

Hundreds of asylum seekers from around the globe are being trapped by the US in a Panama hotel where they'll eventually be sent to a camp in the jungle. One Chinese man said “I thought: America is a free country with respect for human rights. I had no idea it was like a dictatorship.”

Sure, since you asked so nicely! 1. McConnell and the Senate GOP kept Judd Gregg from joining Obama’s Cabinet and blocked Tom Daschle — a powerful senator! — from being Obama’s HHS pick.

Note this is unfortunately routine practice already--its called the foster care system. We remove more children from their families than any country on earth and 90% of them are victims of poverty, not abuse or violence. What Kennedy is calling for is the expansion of a system that already exists.

The other thing about propublica is that they do journalistic “objectivity” right. They don’t pretend every story has two equal sides. The write what is true without favoring or deffering to the powerful.

In the next captive exchange, Israel will release “detained” Palestinian minors “who were not involved in the fighting”. Another term for that is children the IDF kidnapped.

If the Democratic leadership is conceding one-party rule, then the progressive wing of the party needs to step up and take the reins. We've had 33 long years of neoliberalism in the party. Time to try something else. The modern GOP is not interested in bipartisanship. Time to move on.

1000%. This is why Jewish America's most powerful institutions won't fight for American liberal democracy in its moment of peril. Because that would alienate the American authoritarians they cultivate to sustain support for authoritarianism in Israel-Palestine.

No, he doesn't. Randy E. Barnett and Ilan Wurman should be disbarred and removed from their positions for even saying this. There should be no mercy for people articulating this made up bullshit in the legal profession. They are enablers of fascism no different than the lawyers of the Nazi regime.

In light of the news that DOJ leadership is forcing career prosecutors to either dismiss the criminal case against Eric Adams or be fired, it seems like a good time to remind everyone that the judge can refuse to dismiss. That rule exists precisely in order to prevent corrupt dismissals.

Folks are shocked that their institutions, after professing commitments to climate justice and DEI, are now caving to Trump and scrubbing all references. It's brutal. And it's the smallest taste of what our students felt when their universities called in the cops b/c they protested a genocide.

I really don’t think it’s happenstance that pretty much every remaining institutional safeguard broke down within 15 years of Citizens United

AAUP-NYU has issued a report about the egregious correspondence between NYU President Linda Mills and Elizabeth Rand (founder of the anti-Palestinian group MACA), which threatens academic freedom and reflects gross corruption of NYU procedures

Fiance reports that ICE trying to board a bus in Seattle were refused by a Seattle bus driver who told them "gargle my balls"

This exactly. We’ve known for decades that the best way to prevent crime is to provide robust services for individuals, families, and communities. End false scarcity and you end most crime. It’s that simple, but the ruling class would rather criminalize people than ensure they have what they need.

Wow. From one of the latest United Nations updates: The UN attempted to reach North Gaza 165 times between October 6th & December 31st. 149 attempts were denied by Israeli authorities & 16 faced impediments. As in, *every single* attempted UN aid mission was blocked or impeded.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
