love to live in an age when the greatest theologian we got is so committed to letting people know, contrary to common perception, how good and interesting and cool it is to be Christian

When I was a teenager in an evangelical church in Arizona, my pastor would have used this as an illustration of the Antichrist.

ā€œAll has turned to vain ambitionā€¦ a thousand years this city has stood. Now at the whim of a madman, it will fallā€¦ the old wisdom borne out of the West was forsaken. Kings built tombs more splendid than the houses of the living... And so the kingdom of Gondor sank into ruin.ā€ I hear you, Tolkien.

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. #1Corinthians2 #dailyoffice

Beautiful day today on the shores of Glacier Michiganā€¦ I mean, Lake Michigan. Sun is shining at least, and spring is coming.

The corruption is absolutely mind-boggling.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church āš“ļø

Todayā€™s sermon at @epiphanysouthhaven.org covers little league baseball, Miroslav Volf, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, a middle school bully, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, MLK Jr., and Jesus.

Heckuva photo from @tigers.bsky.social over on the Nazi-owned site that they canā€™t seem to quit. (Saw this on the CBS Sports app, deleted my Twxtter account long, long ago.) ā€œKentaā€™s first spring start šŸ”„ 2 IP | 0 H | 0 R | 0 BB | 4 Kā€

Todayā€™s start of the MLS season and this weekā€™s start of MLB spring training gamesā€¦ much needed reminders that summer is indeed coming.

I'm taking a class on "Anglican Divines in the Long Seventeenth Century" and there are a LOT of resonances with the present-day US in the reign of Charles II. Going through the Canons of 1640 right now and it just occurred to me that "woke" is the new "popery."

A meditation When we pray the office (or preform any act for the church), we are making a sacrifice of our time. Literally - we give away something we can not take back. Furthermore, we can think of everything we do as a sacrifice of our time. And are we making sacrifices to God or idols? āš“ļø

My former parish in Charlotte, NC, is looking for a music minister, and I canā€™t recommend the place highly enough. Sharing at every opportunity, far and wide. āš“ļø šŸ“• šŸ•Æļø episcopalnewsservice.org/jobs/ministe...

The Episcopal Church wants my responses about the plagiarism machine that also takes water away from critical needs like forest fire fighting and crops? *cracks knuckles, stretches, hydrates* Itā€™s been awhile since I went ā€œweapons freeā€ on someone. Letā€™s dance.

Christian aid groups receive millions in USAID funds. Now their humanitarian work is collapsing apnews.com/article/usai...

With Bregman heading to Boston, I really wouldn't mind seeing Arenado follow us to Michigan. Change of scenery, playing with a gritty young core in Detroit... I think it works. www.nytimes.com/athletic/613...

Hockey is getting me through this first winter back in the north. So, so pretty.

Pope Francis decries Trumpā€™s immigration policies in letter to U.S. bishops, saying mass deporting people fleeing danger ā€œdamages the dignity of many men and women, and of entire families, and places them in a state of particular vulnerability and defenselessness.ā€ press.vatican.va/content/sala...

Oh look, America. Itā€™s the consequences of your own actions.

sorrow turned into joy

Compassionate God, who calls us to care for the sick and the poor, save USAID and the American commitment to be humanitarians, as generous members of the global family. Amen #collect #prayer šŸ™šŸ¼šŸŒ

Brutal pages to read in light of the attack on USAID, from Jimmy Carterā€™s 2005 book ā€œOur Endangered Values.ā€ The entire book feels like a postmortem of America now. ā€œSharing wealth with those that are starving and suffering unnecessarily is a value by which a nation's moral values are measuredā€¦ā€

I urge people to read this article from Christianity Today, especially in light of Trump's pledge to create a task force to police "anti-Christian bias." Trump and Musk just shutdown hundreds of millions of faith-based humanitarian efforts around the world. www.christianitytoday.com/2025/02/usai...

I've been to MANY events at the state capital building. Some of them lame and poorly organized. Today's had ways to give resources to local change agents, ways to sign up for continued action, and a (mostly clear) and unified message. Others should learn from 50501.

The great historian Timothy Snyder (I've read quite a bit of his work) is more unfettered on Bluesky than in his measured scholarship. He is calling for resistance. Vive la resistance...
