Question. Given US prison labour, and given the plan to relax child labour laws in the US, does any of this run afoul of Australian (and presumably other) legislation on businesses preventing modern slavery in their supply chains?

I wasn’t allowed to respond to Anthony on Q+A, so I’m doing it here x youtu.be/iZSaaV0igFo

The Govt’s Employment White Paper absolutely trashed the private sector employment services sector, and yet…

Nate on Trashfuture brought up how much Invader Zim energy Elon Musk has and this thought is staying with me very hard.

Video games are the perfect analogy for rich white dudes who think they achieved something extraordinary, when in reality people carefully built the entire system so that your journey could be an achievable fun lightly challenging romp.

Not to put too fine a point on it but these are also the same people people who shit their pants in fear and terror if a game has, say, a woman player character.

You can read the full speech at the link below, and in the collection Dancing at the Edge of the World (Grove Press, 1989). serendipstudio.org/sci_cult/leg...

The Starmer aide/AI stuff feels a bit canary/coalmine because this isn't letting electoral factors triumph over good governance or sinply doing something I don't like - things every government does - this is falling for a scam. There are people in Nunber 10 who are just idiots.

WYOMING: “Thank you, Madam chairman.” “I prefer ‘Mister’ chairman.” “Well you all voted preferred pronouns cannot be compelled speech.”

Gonna go back to this which is guaranteed to not have AI in it

The #1 reported reason people avoid doctor’s appointments is because they’re afraid of finding out they have a serious illness. If you have that fear, that’s normal and you’re not alone. Also remember, there is basically no serious illness that isn’t less serious if you catch it sooner.

hey for anyone who might want to actually own their kindle books instead of renting them, or who might be thinking of switching to kobo etc and will want to convert them to epubs, you now only have one week before amazon kills your ability to download its ebooks www.theverge.com/news/612898/...

The rocky horror picture show is just a film about what it’s like to visit a queer sharehouse when you’re straight. Everyone’s singing show tunes, there’s a weird amount of drama happening behind the scenes, someone has a new boyfriend and won’t stop singing about it

Patriotism is the optimistic belief that your country could be the best. Nationalism is the ignorant belief that it already is.

Hey I forget: Is it a good idea to piss off the military when you're trying to set yourself up as a dictator?

I want to see @kenwhite.bsky.social and Josh talk about this on Serious Trouble.

Eventually the Adams case will trickle down to someone who will just follow orders and dismiss it. Make that person historically infamous. (Recall it was Robert Bork who eventually followed Nixon’s order to fire Archibald Cox)

I’ve gotten some extremely racist and vile comments on my Facebook page. Instead of blocking them, I’ve just been tagging their employer. They seem to be so proud of their bigotry so I thought I’d make sure their boss could see it and celebrate them for it. I’m as petty as I am self-employed.

1/2 🧵 Ok, so ideally I would like this post, dating from 1912 and alerting the scientific community of the time to the dangers of coal exploitation and consumption on the greenhouse effect and climate change, to go viral in order to inform the wider community.

"would you please put that in writing" is how you pull off insubordination without actually being insubordinate. Very useful when you are getting sketchy (whatever 'sketchy' might mean) instructions from someone who might not want to take responsibility for it later. signed, a former union steward.

And if they ask you to do it in a voice call or video call, send a follow up email reading "My understanding per our call is that I am directed by you to do the following: XYZ . Please confirm that this is what you are ordering me to do." Not in writing? Not an order.

Meta is renewing its threats against employees, telling them today that they will hunt for leakers and tolerate zero leaks. Want to know how that is going? Three Meta employees who I’ve never spoken to before just cold messaged/emailed me offering me to be sources.

If you wanted no leaks you should have gone into Settings -> Security -> Configure privacy & security -> Privacy options -> Other -> Configure -> Media interface and clicked “Disallow.” The Leak setting is on by default but we understand your privacy is important so we’ve made it easy to opt out

Hey, anyone know how I can get the @msteams.bsky.social #MSTeams web app to stop breaking ctrl-click? Being MS they've done it in a novel way -- the link still works, but it opens the new tab in the foreground. So tough luck if you wanted to open multiple links from an email or message.
