I tested positive for TB in my teens, in SF, and was treated immediately. I’ve got nerve damage in my face because of it. If you think you may have been exposed, please try to get tested.

NV5 lidar data now available via UCSD, USGS & ESRI www.linkedin.com/posts/roncha...

As seen in Mission Beach.

Heads up for the Weather Community! You can now find NOAA (@noaa.gov), NOAA Climate (@climate.noaa.gov) & NWS HQ (@nws.noaa.gov; still being set up) on Bluesky!

New fire in Mission Valley Friars/Via de la Moda, near the Macy’s building. Doesn’t seem off to a good start. share.watchduty.org/i/40974?ts=1...

UCSD grad/undergrads: your vote is crucial. A Yes vote: - Current service, add COASTER, summers for free - Funding for on campus transportation projects including parking solutions for students who need it - Stable funding source for MTS, reliable service. - Only ~$15 more per year than current.

I can't tell for sure if it's Apple's or Docker's fault, but Docker is giving zero explanation anywhere on their website, so I assume they're the ones who introduced an unspecified bug that's so bad that MacOS will interrupt you with an error every 5 seconds until you uninstall Docker.

@leighstearns.bsky.social shining bright at #AGU24 telling the fascinating story of changes at Greenland’s Helheim Glacier Greenland since the 1940s. Advance and thickening up to the 1980s followed by retreat and thinning, all in response to warming atmosphere and ocean and adding to sea level rise

Normal day on the 30 bus in San Diego

The new SWOT map of seafloor topography is incredible! Thanks @voosen.me for writing it up from #AGU24: www.science.org/content/arti...

Sunset in North Pacific Beach tonight.

So nice to see another John Wahr early career award winner. I am sure John would be so happy to see what is possible now with the expansion of modern GNSS tools. #geodesy

Wonderful to be at the Royal Society tonight to celebrate the amazing Jess Wade and her Rosalind Franklin Award. So incredibly well deserved. Read more about her award and lecture here: royalsociety.org/science-even... #Chemsky #Physics 🧪 (I’m nagging her to join Bluesky!)

#AGU24 in DC, day 1: Disappointing lack of amusing misspellings in the poster hall this year.

Happy #AGU24! If you're interested in learning about how InSAR closure phase can be used to measure moisture in soil, vegetation, or wildfire fuel materials, check out my poster Wednesday morning and talk Wednesday evening!

No insight into the earthquakes in California from me, but here are some focal mechanism cookies. Most of them are strike slips but some with non-double-couple component 😉

What's your frame of reference? We all have one; limited to the knowledge we use to interpret the world, evaluate options and draw conclusions. This week the UN Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence hosted a workshop on "Joining Land and Sea" with Badan Informasi Geospasial (BIG) Indonesia #geodesy

From Tourmaline Beach last weekend.

We had beautiful weather for Thanksgiving - this was the sunset that night in Pacific Beach.

If you are a UCSD graduate student, please write to your GPSA rep and ask them to vote to approve a fee referendum to extend the U-Pass program. I’m told loudest voices are demanding parking investment instead. End of U-Pass will kick off a county-wide transit death spiral in my opinion.

The bike didn’t “collide” with the car. The driver of the car drove into the bike lane and killed a person. But you wouldn’t know that unless you clicked the misleading link.

Recommend reading „the Ghost Map“ for more details

It doesn't get better than this. A Rock Wren on a blueschist cobble. This is a snapshot of the bird just before it hopped to the next boulder. When geology and birds come together.

My favorite campaign GNSS site (don't tell the others). You can't beat the view of Mount St. Elias and the sky view for satellites is excellent. #FieldworkFriday

To my SD followers, I grew up in PB (Kate Sessions, PBJH, MBHS), but moved to Colorado in 1990. I enjoyed Colorado, but honestly never saw the need for seasons. I've recently moved back to PB -and am enjoying living in the slow lane, getting around by walking, biking, and taking the bus/trolley.

If anyone is interested to try this with a $25 GNSS chipset, I've got some links posted here, gnssrefl.readthedocs.io/en/latest/pa...

I am looking to recruit 1-2 new PhD students to start in Fall 2025 at CU Boulder in either Mechanical Engineering or Environmental Engineering. Our group works on aerosols (particulate matter): physical properties, indoor/outdoor transport, human exposure, etc. More info: www.colorado.edu/lab/vance

I often get asked why use GPS/GNSS to measure tides when I can buy a tide gauge at the store. One big advantage is that this way you can simultaneously measure land motion and tides. So 🌊 people don’t have to ask, is the water going up or is the land going down?
