Btw: It has been a major inspiration for the design of the Nela protocol. withnela.org #buildinpublic

Focus is definitely an important ingredient for success.

Carton is a proof of concept. So it’s not super fast or beautiful yet, and there’s no mobile view. The goal: figure out if it’s helpful for others. If you’re curious, try it out and share your feedback. Your input would mean a lot!

And, of course, make sure not to remove the output before pushing to production. 😊

The issue with the term MVP is that people often assume “minimum” means it requires little time to build. However, what qualifies as the “minimum” can vary greatly depending on the context; it can range from relatively small to quite extensive.

Yes! Although some people claim that „the best service is no service, which is true in the sense that no customer really wants to talk to you — they just want to get their sh*t done. 😊

In version 1, this could be email support; by version 2, it might evolve into support via an AI chatbot. Even choosing to provide no support is an answer to that question. This is the simplest framework for product scoping I’ve found in over 20 years of product development.

Everything customers ask for can be transformed into a feature or capability; therefore, support itself is a feature. Questions about support or empathy may persist, and the answers to these questions shape the evolution of that feature and your product.

I'm super excited to hear what you think! 🙂 #buildinpublic

I am transforming this idea into a product that I plan to launch soon. It is not a project management tool. It is not a design tool. It is a tool for product scoping and achieving commitment about what comes next.

A phenotype is the visualization of an answer, evolving as the answers change over time.

While the questions mostly remain the same, the answers can change and correspond to different versions, forming a roadmap for future product success.

A product is defined by how it answers your customers' questions. Features and capabilities bring together these questions and answers.

Subscribe to block sounds a bit weird, but it works! Thank you. 😊

I don’t believe openness needs to come at a high cost. I prefer not to rely on proprietary protocols controlled by commercial entities. Imagine an abstraction of email based on HTTP instead.

That’s a massive amount of spam (45-60% of the volume you mentioned)! 😊 This brings me to another point: its wide adoption makes protocol changes costly and difficult (the standards innovation paradox). I love email’s openness, but it’s not a programmer and innovation friendly solution.

The point is, communication here requires more infrastructure than just an SMTP server for sending. You also need infrastructure to receive and retrieve messages, like an MTA. Plus, there’s SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and other considerations.

Do you think the age and complexity of email protocols are responsible for the stagnation of innovation in this area? It feels like the only difference is the disappearance of “You’ve got mail.” 😊
