This right here. Spreading "perfect victim" or "innocence" narratives is dangerous and cedes ground on the fact that *all* people deserve dignity, humane treatment, and access to due process. Feeding into perfect victim or innocence narratives isn't just irresponsible messaging, it is copaganda.

“While in the custody of a county jail in Tucson, AZ, Casey had transformed from an energetic woman who maintained a healthy weight into a skeletal figure who could hardly move or speak. “She was just skin and bones,” her son, Carlin, said.”

One of the 2 DOGE staffers who flew to LA to try to release water at a water pumping station for a photo Op during the wildfires is now a senior adviser to the NOAA Administrator where DOGE has been slashing staff, contracts, programs, and leases

After 21 years at my dream job, I’m very sad to announce my early retirement from the National Institutes of Health. My life’s work has been to scientifically study how our food environment affects what we eat, and how what we eat affects our physiology.

JKR funded the campaign group behind all this btw. This is why we beg you to stop engaging with Harry Potter media.

Here's a small window into what's actually going on for our situation... 😩

thought i was writing a story about an app that pays crypto bounties for reporting undocumented immigrants. but i was actually writing a story about something worse: a crypto pump-and-dump disguised as an app that pays crypto bounties for reporting immigrants www.theverge.com/tech/650015/...

This is a really good point re: Kilmar Abrego Garcia. I'd like to think what we're doing here is using one obvious injustice to crack the whole situation open, and can get everyone else out once we know what it took to do so (or learn we cannot because he's not supposed to BE IN EL SALVADOR.)

I dunno what to tell yah...

Students and communities are putting up strong resistance to the Trump administration’s anti-immigrant agenda, and a key backbone of this resistance is coming from United Teachers Los Angeles, the city’s mighty union of educators.·

Meanwhile in Alberta. Bodily autonomy is not just an issue related to reproductive rights. It also holds implications for disability justice, mental health advocacy, and harm reduction. Huge red flag any time a govt bypasses consent as a matter of policy.

I actually considered making a book a la The King Who Rained of unintentionally funny emails about bus service disruptions. For instance, once a bus had to be taken out of service because the "buzzard" was broken. www.npr.org/2025/03/30/n...

In the melee, you may have missed it: Rubio is telling State employees to snitch on colleagues for "anti-Christian bias." Said "bias" is defined as not agreeing that right-wing Christians are superior and get to dictate the choices of everyone else. www.salon.com/2025/04/15/m...

This is evil and awful and trans people everywhere deserve better than what's happening right now. And I think it's impossible to overtstate the pivotal role that JK Rowling played in mainstreaming hateful and false ideas about trans people. Every dollar you give her goes toward efforts like this.

scammers are using LLMs to take up all the slots in community college courses in San Diego as part of a financial aid scam. Hard to see a way this doesn't eventually kill remote learning for these colleges. Huge deadweight loss generated by LLMs.

Sharing from X: "ICE is filing declarations in multiple cases admitting they don't have power to terminate student status, so students whose student records (SEVIS) are terminated remain in valid status. This means colleges disenrolling students (a majority) are punishing them for no reason."

State and Federal resources are flowing to border security, while local communities lack access to clean drinking water and full-service hospitals. @anjeanette-damon.bsky.social and Perla Trevizo report, with photography by me for @propublica.org www.propublica.org/article/trum...

easy fascist resistance: see an unmarked police car making a traffic stop? tell everyone you know what it looks like and where they're hanging out homies don't let homies end up victims of "random" traffic stops

A reminder that stun guns can maybe kill. (There's not been enough study to say for sure!) youtu.be/7Yd9nLQx3qQ?...

By the end of Greene's Tuesday town hall in Acworth, Ga., three people were arrested and two were hit with stun guns. Greene is one of many lawmakers confronted by angry constituents in recent weeks.

Republicans are having their pictures taken in front of a building that houses thieves, rapists, pedophiles, and murderers. Then they are leaving the White House lawn and flying to El Salvador to pose in front of a prison.

There's no way to spin this as anything but a handout to corporate interests.

Van Hollen says that he asked the VP of El Salvador why his government continues to hold Abrego Garcia even though he’s not charged with any crime and there’s no evidence that he’s MS-13. “His answer was that the Trump administration is paying the government of El Salvador to keep him at CECOT”

Van Hollen says they won't even let him speak with Garcia over the phone.
