Nvidia has been doing a lot of useless stuff lately, but this is actually a big deal. I wonder what the latency looks like on these switches. Traditionally direct-attach copper has always been the preferred choice for low-latency applications, with optics used for longer connections where […]

When we read The Lord of the Rings as kids we thought we'd want to be Frodo or Gandalf, or Aragorn, or Galadriel. And then there are these mega-rich guys who must have thought "I'd really want to be Sauron!", and I suspect they never bothered to finish the book.

An Amiga port of Phantasy Star II would be amazing, I hope it gets completed: https://www.indieretronews.com/2025/03/phantasy-star-2-retrolover-is-aiming-to.html

"History is a branch of Mathematics, Economics is a branch of religion" Funnily enough I was trying to think of a way to word that argument recently then today I finished "The Humans" by Matt Haig which quoted that near the end, would highly recommend

#tfw you find out you have two versions of Microsoft Teams on your computer and don't remember installing either of them

Alright, let's do it. Let's get Canada in the EU.

I don't think you guys realize how much the 08 market crash completely changed the landscape of anime and manga in the US Before it EVERYONE wanted a piece of the shoujo pie because there was an unprecedented amount of girls into manga compared to comics

Yeah, let's do this. My turn now: 1. First #trpg ever played? - Moldvay D&D 2. First you ever ran? - Moldvay D&D 3. Played the most? - Call of Cthulhu 4. Run the most? - Moldvay D&D 5. Favourite? - #GURPS 6. Most recently played? - Shadows of Esteren 7. Most recently run? - Little Heroes

I can confirm that setting up the Music app in #NextCloud to play Classic FM Calm is very much a technology win.

I've been filing bugs to improve Mozilla's crash reporting infrastructure so it's easier to see at a glance if a particular crash affects only a specific CPU but also if only some microcode versions are affected. I said it before but I'll say it again. I would have never thought that CPU bugs […]

Talking to a friend I was reminded that Jean Giraud - better known as Moebius - died on this day 13 years ago. He was such an extraordinary artist. To this day I find myself speechless and moved by the beauty of many of his works. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Giraud #Moebius

I feel for these people sending me HTML e-mails with fonts and images and getting back a text-only reply with a GPG signature attached.

“The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy, the empathy exploit,” Musk said. “There it’s they’re exploiting a bug in Western civilization, which is the empathy response.” -Elon Musk, March 6, 2025 “In my work with the defendants (at the Nuremberg Trials 1945-1949) I was […]

lowkey being called a 'gay faced', 'wormy lesbian' with a 'masculine voice' has kinda been gender affirming

Most of my students know that the US did not enter WWII until after Pearl Harbor (12/7/1941). A few know about America First and the embrace of isolationism in the late-1930s. Almost none believe me when I tell them that 90+ PERCENT of Americans opposed US […] [Original post on mastodon.online]

Talking about scams. I can't wait to see so-called "leaders" across the industry and political spectrum backpedal on the topic of AI. Give it some time and everybody will pretend they never ever believed in it or had anything to do with it. Once the bubble bursts we'll have to make a truckload […]

Trump: "You're gambling with World War III." History: "WWII started with a right-wing authoritarian leader allying himself with a Russian dictator and agreeing to mutually devour a country on Russia's borders. That's essentially identical to what Trump and Putin are attempting to do now. The […]

I wanted to thank all the people posting their art in here. The painters, the pixel artists, the musicians, the singers, the writers, the poets, the sculptors, the actors, the photographers, the puppeteers, the game developers, the demo coders, those doing crochet or just about anything else […]

[Zenshu spoilers] Zenshu has been such a bright spot in an otherwise very dark period. I really love this show and what it's doing. And it's got so many brilliant details, like some of its references are rather obvious but others are not. Like the scene at […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

The EU commission's decision to relax the CO² emission rules for cars is one of the stupidest moves in recent times. Fortunately the EU car market is still imploding - having lost another 2% in January - so we'll still get some serious reductions simply because people are buying less and less […]

Since we've known for a while that crypto is just a scam I haven't really kept up with just how far it has gone. This year alone Tether created 40 billion USDT. These have been used to prop the price of Bitcoin which is still reported in $ even though the bulk […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

Reposting my recent explanation about shoujo/josei because I keep seeing people be like, “Actually that’s not a shoujo it’s a josei”. Josei is largely an English fandom term and is under the umbrella of shoujo so all “josei manga” are also shoujo manga.

First time here. I was a bit on edge because I wanted to go with Fire Bomber at first, but then I decided to truly show my age and go back further with Priss and the Replicants from #BubblegumCrisis @apc #AniMangaFoundIt

I stand with Ukraine and I will until the Ukrainian people are free from Russian fascism.

This is a good time to remind everybody of Hanlon's razor: never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity

Here's another crash caused by a CPU bug in Intel Raptor Lake processors. Raptor Lake is really the gift that keeps on giving. It's shocking how in the span of only a few years CPU bugs went from being a once-in-a-lifetime occasion to being dozens for each iteration of the most popular […]

We should redesign cities for autonomous kids, not autonomous cars.

You gotta admit it, tech executives always find the absolute best ways to say things: > when we say this is like the Industrial Revolution, let's have that Industrial Revolution type of growth Sure, let's consume a ton of irreplaceable resources by dumping their damaging effects on the future […]

Yesterday I mentioned how we had to introduce a couple of bits of inline assembly into Firefox to remove a bit of undefined behavior and I've received a couple of questions on the topic, so here's a short thread about it. Let's start from the beginning, this is about reliably crashing Firefox […]
