Getting there now with my new linocut - two blocks printed and another two to go 😊 #RuskinPark #Camberwell#studiolife #artiststudio

Gail Brodholt is the latest in our inspired by London series for @londonist.com Urban Palette open.substack.com/pub/londonis...

I’ve made a wintry version of ‘From The Motorway’ using some leftover ink - isn’t it nice to just play in the studio from time to time! #linocut #printmaking #linocutartist

'Boy with Comic.' (c1953) Of all the children who sat for Joan Eardley, Andrew Sampson was her favourite - a boldly but sensitively painted work, a picture which has authority and presence; a proper portrait and not a caricature.

What romantic Valentines dinner doesn't involve a furiously whispered argument in some hopelessly overcrowded restaurant, followed by icy silence on the tube home afterwards? So, in celebration of this years ordeal, here’s ‘True Love on the Tube’ #londonprint #Londonart #printmaking #linocut

It’s always a major operation to print Factory Junction - it’s my largest linocut, measuring 55 x 90cm. What was I thinking… 😂 #Londonartist

Rose-tinted glasses must have been worn while I was making this linocut - I’m not sure that the stairs down to Piccadilly Circus tube station ever looked quite like this 🤣 #Londonartist

‘A Weekend Away’ - a good choice of linocut for a Friday night! 😁 #printmaking

Gelett Burgess, born today in 1866 wrote these immortal words: ‘I never saw a Purple Cow, I never hope to see one; But I can tell you anyhow, I’d rather see than be one.’ I have yet to put a purple cow in a linocut so this’ll have to do - at least it’s purple… #printmaking

Printing my little linocut of Embankment Gardens - have a great Sunday! #printmaking

No matter "how often you think about the Roman Empire", identifying a #RomanSalute is even more awkward, considering there's no ancient source clearly describing it. There's *one* ambigous depiction of an outstretched arm on Trajan's column, there's *one* vague passage in Josephus. That's it. 🤷‍♂️

This is the magnificent London Plane tree outside the Dorchester Hotel. It’s one of the Great Trees of London, a list of which was created after the Great Storm in 1987 destroyed so many other trees in a single night… #printmaking

Last Monday was supposed to be the most depressing day of the year but it’s probably no more so than any other - Blue Monday is a PR stunt that has lodged itself in our consciousness because it sort of feels true… So I’m thinking of going with Blue Thursday instead 😰 #linocut #Londonart

'The Tower of London' (1966) by Edward Bawden (The Ingram Collection of Modern British and Contemporary Art)

As it’s World Snow Day today, here’s ’Snow in the Suburbs…❄️ #blockprint #linoprint

It’s that wonderful time of year when it’s colder inside the studio than outside - and I’m dressed up like a teletubbie 😢 #artstudio

I’ve managed to eke out Christmas, doing nothing but eating, drinking and watching TV - perfect! But it’s Twelfth Night so I’m going to have to face reality - a return to a freezing cold and damp studio next week…. Ah well, Happy New Year to you all - here’s hoping for a wonderfully creative 2025!

In the 1970s, famed sculptor Henry Moore moved to a new studio, which looked out on a field of sheep. He made ballpoint sketches of them in all aspects of their self-absorbed sheep-y life ~ his sketchbook, which he gave to his daughter, was later published thamesandhudson.com.au/product/henr...

Wishing everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas - thank you so much for all your kind comments and likes 😊 Hope to see you again next year for more of the same!🎄🎄🎄🎄

Christmas is a time for good food and warmth and it’s a time for going home. Safe journey for everyone heading off today 😊 (Winter Solstice, linocut, trial proofs) #art

In the studio this afternoon - with any luck, I’ll finish working on this drawing before Christmas, all ready for transferring to the lino blocks in the New Year 😊 A gold star for anyone who knows where this is! #londonprint #Londonlife #linocut

I have a niche request for any restaurants lovers who happen to remember the Smollensky’s restaurants in London… could you please share with me your happy memories of visiting there… my dad who founded and owned them is turning 80 very soon and i’d love to share some stories.

This is London Bridge Station as it was, before it was rebuilt. I know it's much easier to use, and a great deal safer, but the magic was definitely lost! #LondonBridgeStation #printmaking #art #linocuts
