The great energy rip-off www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/04... Energy prices in the UK are massively overstated as a result of UK government policy that guarantees we're ripped off and City traders profit massively. And, so far, Labour is showing no signs of doing anything about this.

Why the ‘red lines’, Keir Starmer? We should rejoin the EU, say MPs. 👏👏👏

At the next election, Starmerites will lose their seats en masse and this will end the brief and unsuccessful attempt to kill progressive politics in the UK.

If we have enough money to buy another country then we have enough money to ensure nobody is homeless or goes hungry.

Politicians do communicate, ...all the time. In fact, every time they encourage pensioners to put on extra layers, or withdraw a needed benefit or send arms to Israel, they communicate very effectively.

Every single western pundit, politician, person on this site, pro Israel group, who mindlessly chanted for 18 months, ‘if Hamas released the hostages the war would be over’… should hang their heads in shame, & spend the rest of their lives apologizing, especially for being played by Netanyahu!

The next general election may not be until 2029. But we could be only days or weeks away from Labour making a catastrophic mistake that will guarantee a loss. If they reach a deal with the USA that precludes us ever getting truly close to the EU again, let alone rejoining, then it's "Game Over".

It’s important to note this is not and was never about citizenship. It’s about removing diversity and dissent to authoritarian power. Every man denied due process deserves basic rights because they are human. But remember that they are just the first and no one is safe: www.npr.org/2025/04/16/n...

The modern US Republican Party may be the most openly, brazenly, and shamelessly hypocritical group of people to have ever existed in human history.

Not only did the IDF deliberately attack an ambulance and murder the health workers travelling in it, it appears likely the survivors of the initial attack were executed in cold blood at short range. news.sky.com/story/two-ho...

Britain, a trading nation, now has a vital choice to make about its priority trading partners: - the EU, where agreements are made, kept, reciprocal, based on international norms, & enforced by a court - the USA, where agreements are made, broken, changed & broken again at a whim, with no recourse

The tendency of European officials to say this or that US capability is irreplaceable is understandable in the context of diplomatic efforts to slow America's withdrawal from Europe. But once Americans do leave they'll quickly find that their capabilities can be replaced and leverage is gone.

People who for too long claimed the safe haven status of the dollar and US Treasuries is unshakeable because of lack of alternatives might want to start thinking about what happens to the global economy if trust in the US's status as a safe haven collapses before useable alternatives emerge

I've managed crises my entire career: I led the Bank of Canada through the 2008 financial crisis, and the bank of England through Brexit. I’ve been here before — and I have a plan to see Canada through this.  #Debate2025

We only get results if we fight and take action. Thank you, Senator Van Hollen. Now it’s time to bring Kilmar home.

A leak that confirms that Trump sacking Powell and ending the Fed's independence is an increasingly likely scenario, with all the knock-on impacts that will have in global market trust in Treasuries and the dollar.

"To govern is to choose", but Starmer and McSweeney appear to act in their and Labour's interests. A trade deal with the US should be low on the list of deals we must make. Top of that list is a deal with the EU.

Can we stop pretending a trade deal with Trump will be a gamechanger for the UK. It won’t | Martin Kettle www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Well, well, well, not everyone is taking it lying down... Well, well, well novaramedia.com/2025/04/15/k... Thank you @adamramsay.bsky.social

Does "preparing for the worst" include a US/UK trade deal? Unbelievable that Labournis pursuing one, which could thwart our eventual route back to the EU.

Nadav Shtrauchler, a former adviser to Mr. Netanyahu, said that the prime minister had experienced “a complete reversal” under the Trump administration that allowed him “much more room to operate.”

As I watch Starmer tear up Labour's prospects by attacking people in poverty, abusing those who care about the living world and appeasing the ultra-rich, I feel the same sense of dislocation as I did before the Iraq War. Anyone can see the disaster coming, except, apparently, the government.

Your regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference. The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.

Wow. Harvard University says they will not comply with Trump’s demand to “audit” the viewpoints of their student body or else be defunded. More of this.
