(1/7) I was surprised at how much I enjoyed watching 'The Church / La Chiesa' (1989, Kanopy). Writer/director Michele Soavi was a protégé of Dario Argento, which is a red flag for me. But I was won over by its cosmic-horror-meets-Catholicism in which a librarian opens a hellmouth under a church.

New development at NE Sandy Blvd & 27th. They retained the arched structure of the Pepsi bottling plant that was there previously. 15 years ago we lived nearby and walked our dog Ginger around the area, always stopping to watch the big trucks full of soda pull out of the warehouse.

'Barb Wire' (1996, Criterion) knew which way the wind was blowing. This movie is more fun than I expected. Compared to other genre movies of the 90s ('Virtuosity', 'Hackers'), this one breezes right along. It was just right for half-watching while playing with the pup before bedtime.
