We must move away from any reliance on Musk’s Starlink immediately. Not to be putting plans in place to do this is negligent, harmful to all Australians & is the opposite of keeping us safe #auspol

I would prefer to see Aussie funds similarly considered in their choices of investment and divestment

Gen. Mark A. Milley, who served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump: “No one has ever been as dangerous to this country as Donald Trump. I realise he's a total fascist. He is the most dangerous person in this country."

The major parties don't have the moral courage to protect the people and places we love. This election is an opportunity to vote for a candidate who will. Minority govt may be the only thing that forces the Govt to put 🇦🇺ns ahead of vested interests. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

I don't think we're talking enough about the fact that the pressure to remove DEI from science means women die.

None of this is a surprise but it’s powerful to see it put together so well. Diversity, equity and inclusion is not just morally right, although it is, it’s good economics.

They are deliberately crossing the red lines, in order to make the unacceptable commonplace and, eventually, acceptable again.

"During the pandemic, scientists sparred over how COVID spread. Some researchers said it was airborne, but public health authorities like the WHO flatly said it wasn't. It took two years for the WHO to publicly turn around. This seemed very strange to me at the time as a journalist. "

I don’t know why this is hard for folks to understand. The layoffs aren’t just about probationary employees. They are going beyond that. It won’t stop. It’s all about making agencies non-functional.

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

In 2011 just 784 people waited more than 12 hours in a Scottish A&E – last year more than 76,000 did. Read our new analysis of the latest Scottish ED performance data and full response by RCEM's VP for Scotland here - tinyurl.com/bdeskmc2

'we're never "just joking."' Great thread 👇

Congrats, ALP you really thought this one through

Anyone in Australia still keen on AUKUS? Anyone there?

90% has happened in my grandma’s lifetime. She’s still alive. We changed the world in a human lifetime and we could do it again, but in a way that gives our kids a future.

the major parties have seen their primary votes fall from 96% in 1975 to 68% in 2022. they had two options to arrest the decline: 1. win back trust with good governance & good policy 2. rig the system tonight they chose to rig the system. a dark day for australian democracy.

SBS in Australia have an episode on My Body, My Choice. But has a "no mask policy" for their show. Just an example of discrimination we face when it comes to masking. And the reason we don't see representation of masking more widely.

"Immunity debt" becomes increasingly absurd as time passes since mitigations ended and the impacts of more and more infectious diseases continue to get worse.

Our man in DC. My @smh @theage cartoon.

Elon Musk wants to strip out payments for the indirect costs of doing vital research for the federal govt — while SpaceX gets to keep its undisclosed indirect rate.

*Maybe* the political opposition (doubtful) or the courts (unlikely) or the people (let's hope) will put an end to the destruction happening in America, but the damage is done internationally. From now on, the US will always be seen as one election away from insanity.

. That time when Australia stood for something you could be proud of has disappeared. 79 other countries have signed this statement of support for the ICC but Australia has not signed it, despite being a signatory to the Rome Statute which established the court. Shame on Albanese and Wong!

Rather than this week gifting $800m to US defence companies, a smart govt would be using that money to entice as many US scientists and researchers to come here as we can www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I'm a UK graduate. I did all my schooling in the UK, undergraduate & postgraduate. But I wasn't born here. I came to this country as a child refugee. If you have a shortage of doctors now, it's not the fault of immigrants. It's because of immigrants you have any health service at all. Do better

At this moment, there has never been such little sea ice on the planet in all of recorded history. We've lost nearly 20% of the world's sea ice in just the past 45 years. We are in a climate emergency.

Oops 😬

Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order. TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)
