I’m not really interested in most garden variety politic posting since I think “I got another thing on how Trump is a hypocrite” is a waste of time and energy. It IS important to emphasize that the silly things we do on computers and our values around surveillance are inherently political though.

I eyeball almost all the text-based social media apps and the vibe on Threads seems to be the most conservative now which is… surprising. Not even regular conservatism but the most unhinged and disconnected from reality takes getting plugged.

Why doesn't Looker allow me to assign what shows on the X or Y axis in their charting? Excel lets me do that...

When the status page is down, you know the service was getting killed. Welcome back, Zoom.

I don't really buy the cybersecurity experts claim of "while it's possible the user was disguising their location, it's highly unlikely they'd appear to be coming from Russia if they wanted to avoid suspicion" this is something cybercriminals do all the time. I personally used to do this. 🧵 1/?

MITRE's CVE is back (for now...). I wonder how the US gov't will handle this with the goal of scaling back gov't participation in cybersecurity. cyberplace.social/@GossiTheDog...

It's an example of the seemingly faked images of .gov emails taking advantage of the uncertainty of their own compromise.

Admittedly, haven't read a ton about the 4Chan stuff but it's wild to be asked by non-tech friends if it was actually a gov't honeypot.

These two posts: * “We need to treat antifa and BLM like terrorist organizations,” said Joe Kent, Trump’s pick to lead counter-terrorism efforts. * Trump to Bukele (president of El Salvador): “Home-growns are next. The home-growns. You gotta build about five more places. It’s not big enough.” 1/

The weather has reached 70 degrees and I am, unfortunately, drinking a cold brew.

Never really been that dialed into local (or even national?) infosec circles with most my friends being sports or music adjacent. I know this is weird but how do adults make friends in 2025 in computer circles?

There's a part of me that hears about Cellebrite ceasing the sale of its services to groups that target students and wouldn't be surprised if they begin selling again on the sly in six months.

Bruce Schneier with a good blurb on privacy as a right in the new landscape of what will likely be the NSA spying on US citizens domestically. www.schneier.com/blog/archive...

Bluesky has been a safe haven for users fleeing X and Threads. But while there’s less hate, there’s also fewer lolz.

My insurance provider is requiring I go to an “in-network pharmacy”, get a smaller refill on allergy meds or… ding ding ding… use their pharmacy service that they bought. How this isn’t monopoly power being exercised is beyond me.

Weird times when Laura Loomer is the reason the NSA head is fired. www.cnn.com/2025/04/03/p...

Sometimes, my stomach sounds like a submarine going to new depths.

I do not have the mental fortitude to survive another April Fools in tech.

This week we secured a major step forward for renters — My ordinance banning algorithmic rent price fixing passed out of the Homelessness and Housing Committee! Now it’s moving to the full City Council for a first hearing on the morning of Wednesday, April 2nd. ‼️ We need your help ‼️

There was a push for a "new Great American Era" but we've kinda seen the industries that are supposedly going to drive this floundering and the rest of the economy is scaling back. We're thinly veiling the decline of the American economy.

Guess it’s time to get Signal.

ProPublica looked into science grants that Ted Cruz's team flagged as "radical" and "neo-Marxist" and, uh. This would be good comedy if it didn't matter so much www.propublica.org/article/ted-...

Took a weekend off of being a nerd to go see live music and friends. I am tired but it’s a real treat to have the opportunity to do that still.

HugOps to whoever wrecked Slack at start of business.

I'm always confused by the web's tendency to consider using Firefox the activity of a bot. Everything I've ever seen to automate crawling is a headless instance of Chrome. 🤷

I respect what Spamhaus does but boy, they do not know how to talk to normal people when they ask a basic question.

We’re not going to see a “smaller” government and anyone thinking so is foolish. It’ll instead get privatized into more expensive, lower quality services.

My social media usage is feast or famine. I’ll just ignore it and go back to senseless scrolling here and there when I’m not firing on all cylinders.

I think it's important to keep track of the things that happen but mostly in an informational capacity and (ideally) for the eventual accountability here. At the same time, you're not doing anything by rage posting or subjecting yourself to the worst of it. www.404media.co/you-cant-pos...

If you didn't already distrust the "experts" being put in place to gut the US gov't, they can't even run their own site: arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

This is like Marlboro admitting their products are directly related to death but they keep pushing: www.404media.co/microsoft-st... Which is to say the usefulness is never as important as the PROSPECT of making money.

Will Defcon bring back “spot the fed” now?

For all the anger over BRICS and its challenge to US power internationally, we're seeing a number of steps that will inevitably strengthen alignment with China such as reducing our soft power presence (USAID dismantling) and our regular global presence via threatening the razing of Gaza.

The Californian farmers that largely voted for Trump are going to get their meager water rights further eroded by Trump's order to redirect water that won't even reach LA... #geopol #uspol

I hadn’t realized that Enron’s CEO had much of his fraud conviction overturned by the Supreme Court in 2010. Wild to legalize corruption in the US.

China doesn't have your SSN if you use TikTok. People like this are taking up extreme hyperbole to oversell some sorta racist take on "scary Chinese".

Can ANYONE articulate what Cuba has done to warrant the wrath of the US State Dep’t for years? I have no comprehension of this and I’ve read a history on the island. #uspol #geopol
