🚨Be careful under that heat dome out east. 620 died out west in 2021. Overdoses are more common when the mercury is up. But on the DTES, deaths were less than they could’ve been bc we take care of each other. So do that. Check on yer people. Find shade. Stay hydrated. Stay safe 🌡️

I’ve heard Bon Jovi’s Living On A Prayer hundreds of times. 🧀🎸None of them were my choice. Monday at the Ovaltine it was on the radio. I actually paid attention to the bass line. And it’s pretty decent. I wanna rip it off somehow.

Ah comrade, no. Shit. RiP Peter đź’” www.bbc.com/news/article...

"When Poilievre says 'everything in Canada feels broken,' that feels true to me." "But that's the bait. And then comes the switch. The switch is: 'Well, we have to blame drug users. We have to blame trans kids. We have to blame immigrants.'" #BritishColumbia #Canada #Drugs #Policing

Of course the local anarchist bookshop has my book Crackdown, and it’s moving pretty good, they say. Plus, they made this little display with a review from BC Bookworld.

At today's @crackdownpod.bsky.social editorial board meeting we had @msthpetra.bsky.social from Moms Stop the Harm drop by. Also copies of my book for everyone. I did not prompt them to hold 'em up. That was Samona's idea.

I am very glad to hear the federal minister of health say that forced treatment does not work. Now all the provincial health ministers gotta listen. @crackdownpod.bsky.social will have an ep on this out in a few days. cfjctoday.com/2025/06/03/h...

I am honoured for my book Crackdown to be featured in BC Bookworld this summer 🤯📚#booksky bcbooklook.com/on-the-addic...

Since I was first handed a new syringe by a harm reduction activist, I knew I had to be involved. I've seen many others join up too. But in every war, soldiers are rotated off the front lines for R&R. We need to do this. Because we're losing hundreds to burn out, grief, PTSD & exhaustion.

The Old Spaghetti Factory is a chain?!? I thought it was some pokey old Vancouver thing. Somehow, I feel cheated. I assume everybody else knew

Shameful shit for a shameful city

When I was ten years old, I was in the care of an adult that should not have been allowed to be around children. I watched as missing children appeared in the newspaper. I cut out their pictures and biographical info and glued it into my notebook, in case I ever ran into them.

A great book for those trying to understand why harm reduction & safe supply are needed. @garthmullins.bsky.social uses story and experience to make a compelling case. And it's a pleasure to read. Which is weird given the topic, but true nonetheless.

What do we all know about the pneumonia circulating on the DTES? My best friend may well have it and I need information. What are the effects on a very underweight man in his 50s who been smoking rock & corner cigarettes for decades?

We never heard of that DTES Czar. VANDU woulda told him the solutions are already known: safe supply, decrim, defund VPD & reallocate to community, build public housing. But he never called. Now he’s sacked.

Just finished reading Crackdown by @garthmullins.bsky.social and I am thankful this book has been written. If you are wondering why the streets are looking the way they do and how to better manage the problems, this book offers a lot to consider from the perspective of someone on the ground.

Thanks for having me back on your show, Mo

Wow, that was a journey... @garthmullins.bsky.social is an incredibly engaging storyteller, weaving his memoir & the history of drug prohibition on the west coast over the past few decades. Go get 'Crackdown: Surviving & Resisting the War on Drugs' at a local bookstore, or borrow it--VPL has it!

British Columbia - once a world leader in harm reduction - has reversed course under pressure from an organized right wing moral panic and is now doing the exact opposite of what we need to save lives. This will make things worse for us, but perhaps better for the gutless ghouls in office.

I just read @jackshuler.bsky.social 's amazing, thoughtful, political review of my book "Crackdown". I'm happy it resonates in USA, particularly at this political moment. Our movements must be international - harm reduction has no country. Ty for the kind words, Jack. matternews.org/voices/we-ha...

As Prime Minister Carney chooses his cabinet, just a gentle reminder that I am available to fill the post of Fentanyl Czar. I have decades of experience & an extensive resume. References available www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7532951

This rips my heart. Gaza babies in don’t have the energy to cry. 💔💔 www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05...

There’s a lot of moms out there, missing someone special at brunch, someone stolen by the drug war. I’m thinking of you all today.

Within hours of Poilievre's election loss, Conservative staffers were dispatched to the Tory archives to obtain Stephen Harper's sweater vest for the image softening to come. "It worked in 2008," one was heard saying, "now who's got a cat?"

Thank you @seanorr.bsky.social for your motion at City Council to name Ashtrey Alley. RIPđź’”. We will never forget the murders of the drug war.
