The question I would like to see politicians asked is: what do you think happens if every country tries to ban refugees from taking "dangerous journeys" without providing alternatives? International displacement is primarily an international issue not a national one.

As an honorary Stokie, I loved writing this feature about Stoke-on-Trent for the Guardian, highlighting some of the places that make Stoke so special. And I can’t wait to see how the city celebrates its centenary year. www.theguardian.com/travel/2025/...

Felt Christmassy. Might deliver presents to the world’s children by sled later.

Episode one of season 35 of the Simpsons is one of the best episodes in decades. Trust me, go watch it now.

I’m supposed to be making dinner…but cat!

Anyone interested in becoming a freelance writer, my wife Caroline Butterwick, is running an online course with Writing West Midlands. Caroline’s a pretty prolific journalist, and quite successful at it. More so, she’s an excellent and experienced facilitator and teacher. Well worth the money.

Has anyone else noticed a sharp uptick in the amount of garbage bot accounts on Bluesky? I’m suspecting the beautiful woman with six fingers in her profile photo, following 45k people, followed by 12, who’s never posted or replied to anything publicly on the platform MIGHT not be real.

Remember when Jeremy Corbyn built his entire manifesto around the fact he was going to raise taxes, and got more votes than Starmer did?

Why was Starmer wearing a black suit on breakfast television? He looks like he was dressed for his own bloody funeral.

Has anyone noticed that the Simpsons got good again? There was a gradual decline after around (imho) season 7ish. Then around season 12+ it became largely unwatchable. I’ve seen three *very* new episodes, and each one has been surprisingly funny, touching, and at times insightful.

I’m finally going to get round to finishing the Star Wars films. I enjoyed the allegedly terrible ones I saw. But have never managed to complete the original trilogy.
