Interesting first day of this week's General Synod meeting - I detected a very different mood. It was good to hear a safeguarding debate where everybody appeared to be singing from the same hymn sheet. Maybe this is the week that the C of E will get its house in order - still much to do.

An open letter to the Church of England’s Diocesan Bishops: General Synod and Safeguarding If Synod does the right thing next week, victims, survivors, advocates and campaigners won't have to continue being “shouty campaigners”. churchabuse.uk/2025/02/06/a...

More porky pies from the Pinocchio Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell Do the right thing, Archbishop Pinocchio, and close the door on your way out. You can take your porky pie with you. churchabuse.uk/2025/01/30/m...

For God’s sake, Stephen Cottrell: Go. And go Now! The Church of England might wobble if it loses two archbishops; but it will have a bigger wobble if you try to stay and continue to do harm. churchabuse.uk/2025/01/28/f...

Too little, too late: Charity Commission reminds General Synod of charity trustee’s safeguarding duties Synod members: Be bold. Stand up and say “NO MORE”.  Don’t be complicit in the ongoing re-abuse of victims and survivors. churchabuse.uk/2025/01/27/t...

Shhh!  Silence from the Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell The opportunity remains: Archbishop Cottrell, will you act on your words and promise of accountability or not?

Safeguarding: Second Church Estates Commissioner holds Church of England feet to the fire Marsha de Cordova is happy to speak off script. She won’t accept everything she’s told. She’ll be a challenge, as well as a mouthpiece.

The General Synod and Safeguarding – a look ahead to February’s Group of Sessions Safeguarding will run through the February meeting of the General Synod like the word “Blackpool” runs through a stick of seaside rock.

An open letter to te Most Revd and Right Hon Stephen Cottrell, Archbishop of York If your commitment to becoming an accountable church is more than “fine words”, you should have no problem answering my questions.

Archbishop of York: “Don’t be a shouty campaigner on safeguarding – we don’t listen to the shouty people” The Archbishop of York can choose to ignore me and others; but if the Church had listened. perhaps Justin Welby wouldn’t be standing down. churchabuse.uk/2025/01/05/a...

Charity Commission responds to open letter on Church of England safeguarding fiasco As the Charity Commission refuses to properly hold the Archbishops' Council to account, now is the time for a full public statutory inquiry. churchabuse.uk/2025/01/04/c...

Jasvinder Sanghera, sacked by the Archbishops' Council as its Independent Safeguarding Board's survivor advocate for advocating too well, is continuing to work with the ISB-11 - those victims and survivors the ISB were working with before it was scrapped. www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/81736f9...

Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell’s “fine words” with no action Stephen Cottrell, channelling the spirit of Eliza “Do Little” – Don't just talk about justice... Show us. churchabuse.uk/2024/12/27/a...

Because of the way victims and survivors of church-based abuse treated, I can no longer call it #MyChurchOfEngland. I long for the day when the Archbishops' Council deals with safeguarding properly, so that news coverage can focus on the Good News of the Gospel of Christ.

Did you know that Mariah Carey shuns turkey for Christmas and opts for roast lamb instead? All she wants for Christmas is ewe.

Helpful / pedantic reminder (western): Christmas Day: 25 December Christmas Feast (Festival): 25 December (or after sunset on 24 December) to 5 January (12 Days) Christmas Season: 25 December to 2 February - the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (40 days).

Is William Nye, the Secretary General of the Church of England's Archbishop's Council, trying to stop Stephen Cottrell resigning as Archbishop of York because he thinks him staying is good for the Church, or because Cottrell is Nye's last available human shield?

Does the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, suffer from pseudologia mythomania? Cottrell didn’t do the right thing, because if he did the right thing, he’d have to tell the truth, something we know he has a problem with. churchabuse.uk/2024/12/22/d...

Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell: I regret the BBC has discovered that I twice voluntarily renewed child abuser David Tudor's contract twice; even though I told the BBC on Monday that I took immediate action at the first possible opportunity. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Church of England safeguarding: Children’s Society is wrong to refuse Justin Welby’s donation A call for Justin Welby, Stephen Cottrell and William Nye to resign their posts is not a call for them to be shunned. churchabuse.uk/2024/12/21/c...

I'll be with Stuart George on BBC Radio Stoke just after the 11 am news this morning to talk about the Church of England's continuing abuse scandal.

Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey returns his Permission to Officiate after @BBCRadio4 File on Four expose by @AleemMaqbool into the David Tudor abuse scandal, effectively bringing an end to 65 years of ordained ministry. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

(Yet Another) Mis-Statement from the Archbishop of York Responding to BBC’s File on Four expose, Stephen Cottrell can’t resist his natural impulse to lie about Church of England safeguarding.

You're not allowed to e-petition the UK parliament on matters that relate to "particular individuals outside of the UK Government or Parliament". Current e-petitions show this is often ignored. Yet two petitions from me referencing the Church of England have been blocked.

Church of England announces response to Makin review: kick it into the long grass

Should bishops who have so badly let down victims and survivors of church-related abuse have automatic seats in the House of Lords? If you think "no", please sign and share this Parliamentary petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Sign the Parliamentary petition to remove bishops from the House of Lords

Whatever your view on "the right to die", and whichever way the vote on the assisted dying bill goes (MPs are voting right now), the debate this morning has been exemplary and shows Parliament at its best. It was good to see MPs express strongly held views with so much respect.

How Keir Starmer, Lucy Powell, Shabana Mahmood, Lindsay Hoyle, Lord McFall and Lisa Nandy can help stop the Church of England's continual re-abuse of victims and survivors of church-related abuse If you know these politicians, please lobby them.

Why is action only being taken against priests? What about the bishops criticised in the Makin Review?

The question that I, and many others I am in contact with, want answered is this: Why on earth has the Charity Commission not launched a formal statutory inquiry into the working of the Archbishops’ Council and its safeguarding failings?

Church of England refuses to answer Parliamentary questions on safeguarding

"With you at the helm, the Church of England has become a more dangerous place. It will not, and can not, improve its safeguarding with you at the helm."
