Gateway Pundit claims falsely that the news is fake, but DOE now confirms that classified accounts were given to DOGE employees. Update story here: www.npr.org/2025/04/28/n...

UPDATED STORY: The Department of Energy now acknowledges that DOGE employees Farritor and Ramada were given accounts on the classified networks, but they say the accounts were never activated and have never been accessed. www.npr.org/2025/04/28/n...

One source said the DOGE accounts would be a "toehold" to start asking for secrets. "They're getting a little further in, it's something to make note of," they concluded. "It could lead to something bigger." www.npr.org/2025/04/28/n...

"Access to both networks would normally require a "Q" clearance, the highest level of security clearance at the Department of Energy..." www.npr.org/2025/04/28/n...

"Luke Farritor, a 23-year-old former SpaceX intern and Adam Ramada, a Miami-based venture capitalist, have had accounts on the computer systems... Prior to their work at DOGE, neither Farritor nor Ramada appear to have had experience with either nuclear weapons or handling classified information."

EXCLUSIVE: Two DOGE employees have access to a network used to transmit classified nuclear weapons data and a separate network used by the Department of Defense, sources tell NPR.

BREAKING: Two sources tell NPR that DOGE employees have gained accounts on classified networks that hold nuclear secrets. The Department of Energy denies the story: "This reporting is false," a spokesperson told NPR in an emailed statement. www.npr.org/2025/04/28/n...

Some Los Angeles fires victims are rebuilding their homes without gas appliances. Climate advocates want all homeowners to choose electric, but it's hard to require that of people who've had their lives upended. My @npr.org story with Ryan Kellman's photos: www.npr.org/2025/04/23/n...

Great reporting by my Pulitzer-prize-winning colleague @badnewshagen.bsky.social on the many conservative cross currents feeding the pronatalist movement. What is pronatalism, and what role do Musk and Vance have with it? www.npr.org/2025/04/25/n...

4/25 West Texas Measles Update: Continued moderate growth, 22 new cases, which is fewer than we've had in several previous Friday updates. No new counties, with relatively slow growth in El Paso, which has a very high 96% vaccination rate among kindergarteners. elpasomatters.org/2025/02/23/m...

Fascinating insight here into SpaceX and Musks other privately held companies: www.wsj.com/business/elo...

"I watch Event Horizon once a year." @wslafoy.bsky.social, for no apparent reason.

Teslas numbers are down year-on-year (and in many cases even bigger drops quarter-on-quarter).

NEW: a Nature Careers survey shows a sharp uptick in US-based researchers applying for jobs abroad. Overseas job applications are up 32% between January and March. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

As @armscontrolwonk.bsky.social and my colleague @lauraegrego.bsky.social explain, Golden Dome and Israel's Iron Dome couldn't be more different. One has limited capabilities against relatively slow, close-range attacks. The other is complete fantasy. @gbrumfiel.bsky.social covers it well here:

NEW: Texas Measles cases have passed 600 today. Growth continues at a steady pace of several dozen cases a week. The fraction of cases from Gaines County, which has been at the center of the outbreak, is dropping slowly. Meanwhile, new cases are spreading in other areas, notably El Paso County.

At the Carnegie nonproliferation conference and IAEA chief Rafael M. Grossi spent a bit of time making the case for nuclear-propulsion in commercial shipping. Really interesting.

“It’s the difference between a kayak and a battleship.” The incomparable @armscontrolwonk.bsky.social on Golden Dome vs Iron Dome. www.npr.org/2025/04/22/g...

BREAKING NEWS: The White House has begun the process of looking for a new secretary of defense, according to a U.S. official who was not authorized to speak publicly.

Texas Measles Update: Despite health secretary RFK Jr.'s claims, cases have not "plateaued". There are 36 new cases since Tues, which is very consistent with the rate of growth for over a month. In addition, 3 cases were reported in El Paso for the first time. www.dshs.texas.gov/news-alerts/...

NEW: Great reporting by @lmcgaughy.bsky.social about Elon Musk's bid to incorporate Star Base for his Starship ambitions and gain control of currently public (and very pretty) Boca Chica Beach in the process. www.kut.org/politics/202...

NEW: According to @joelachenbach.bsky.social at the Washington Post, an early White House Budget plan from the Office of Management and Budget would slash NASA's $7.3 billion science directorate more-or-less in half. www.washingtonpost.com/science/2025...

So apparently one of the “Tren de Aragua” tattoos on the official DHS watchlist was done by a Nottingham-UK-based tattoo artist… and the middle-aged Brit who got it isn’t sure whether he should take his vacation to Miami or not. www.bbc.com/news/article...

NEW: Trump administration backing off plan to crack down on Nvidia H20 chip (most advanced chip it can sell to China) after Jensen Huang attended $1 million-a-head dinner at Mar-a-Lago & Nvidia promised new AI data center investments in US. with @emilyzfeng.bsky.social www.npr.org/2025/04/09/n...

An hour+ into Isaacman's confirmation hearing and nobody has pressed him about his many business connections to SpaceX yet. (But Isaacman did name check @nasawatch.bsky.social!)

In his confirmation hearing, Isaacman just gave a shout out to nuclear propulsion in space... It's one of my favorite topics! www.npr.org/2021/02/24/9...
