If you are a knowledge worker, critical thinking is the job. Everything else you do - writing, coding, researching, presenting - should be in service to that. If your job is doing those tasks, you are a skilled laborer, which is a legitimate profession, but it's more easily disrupted and automated.

Oh, we're already at the colored armbands point.

Not true. I see you're a luxury watch dealer. I'm also interested in watches. Let me show you how free and easy migration has allowed you to earn a living. 🧵

We've been studying the cognitive science of *diagrams*, and have recently put out a new (very) lightweight programming language and tool for diagramming models in formal methods. Check it out here! blog.brownplt.org/2025/06/09/c...

I love how Altman is trying to lower the bar for what AGI might mean by anchoring it to what people 15 years ago might think. Makes me wonder if he thinks his prediction timelines for AGI are in jeopardy. www.theregister.com/2025/06/05/o...

Here’s a person, Baldur Bjarnason, @baldur, who thinks I’m really wrong about LLMs and coding. I mostly don’t agree but the argument is well-presented: https://www.baldurbjarnason.com/2025/trusting-your-own-judgement-on-ai/

Go vote, Italians, vote!

We have been asking by many users why we do not provide Second Factor Authentication (2FA) for our password manager; as hard as we thought about doing it, the way we treat our users’ data creates some tricky issues we couldn’t find any solid solution for. But it turns out that while not […]

The public meltdown happening between the world’s richest man 🙄 and the President of the United States 🙄🙄 once again begs the age-old question: are men simply too emotional to be in positions of power?

1/ Since it's open season on the Chinese in the US right now, I wanted to post about a remarkable Chinese-American experience that is one of the real gems of New England, making the region and country better in every way. It's about jazz and blues music. ↵

once again I must tap my own sign

New — I wrote about the injustice unfolding before our eyes as rich reality stars are pardoned for their crimes while law-abiding immigrants are rounded up and caged by ICE, and the way communities are rising up to say fuck no.

SQL speaks. Parquet listens. Metadata in stone, data in vapor. Time rewinds, schema mutates. A lakehouse dreaming of acid compliance in the desert sun. Experimental? So is survival. 🦂 github.com/duckdb/du...

Pride is not just a celebration—it’s a declaration. A declaration that queer and trans people exist, have always existed, and will not be erased. It is rooted in resistance: against the closet, against the shame, against the quiet compliance that systems of power demand.

Just saw a comedian say "If vaccines caused autism then America would have trains" and I almost spit out my drink.

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

🚨ATTENTION MOMS🚨 Friday, May 30th at 3pm Meet me outside of the CDC with your pregnant bellies, your babies, your toddlers, your strollers, your signs, and your baby gear. We are standing up for science and vaccines! @standupforscience.bsky.social RSVP: actionnetwork.org/events/moms-...

In this context, practicing judo (especially when doing ground work) looks like taking “hugs integrators”. 😅🥋 https://mastodon.social/@Daojoan/114589292487857858

I love Tim suggestion (that I read as RE[lax] NG BIS, and it feels pretty appropriate, in addition of being easily searchable). So I have updated the name of the project, its repository, and also added some examples (at the moment just one) in the ReadMe: - https://github.com/gcsolaroli/rengbis […]

Request for name suggestions: I am building a language to define data schema (similarly to what xsd and json-schema do) that is format independent, and thus it could be used to validate data serialized in multiple different formats. It’s optimized for ergonomics, as I find current schema […]

We are also running without using any analytics. We like to think we have a high quality product, even though it’s definitely not a financial success (and this is quite an understatement 😅) https://fosstodon.org/@ente/114545598102226192

Boggles my mind that I can, on a whim, take a day trip to see my favorite building in the world at a great price with several fast trains *per hour*. (Why on a whim? Because I never even considered it, based on the map.) Italian rail is quite something. #Italy25
