50 years after it was first dreamt up by Douglas Hofstadter, this fascinating fractal butterfly has been found in a real physical system (in graphene, no less)! It's butterflies all the way down 🦋 www.newscientist.com/article/2470...

"Governments have never met a single target in the history of UN biodiversity agreements"

Delighted to support local radio station @925phoenixfm.bsky.social Serves community of c.140K in Blanchardstown & Dublin 15 At about 9 minutes speaking about Blanchardstown Tidy Towns & St Patricks Day parade #communityradio #dubw www.mixcloud.com/925PhoenixFM...

For vertical farming to work for cereals, energy would need to be insanely cheap. We underestimate how cheap a lot of outdoor farming is. That's good for feeding 9-10 billion people. But bad news for indoor competitors. I ran the numbers here: www.sustainabilitybynumbers.com/p/vertical-f...

Afternoon all, how’re ye getting on?

There will be an electrical recycling day (WEEE Recycling Event) at #Swinford Golf Club, on Saturday, 1st March 2025, from 10am – 4pm. Householders will have an opportunity to recycle any waste electrical items, batteries or energy saving lightbulbs for FREE #TidyTowns #Mayo

@irishenvnet.bsky.social great to find you on bluesky 🦋

Oh my goodness! This is FABULOUS!!!!! 😍

Offline, we’ve been having a lot of fun too. In fact, Geashill recently went a bit batty as we received the fascinating results from the recent Bat Survey - part of the Neighbourhood Bats 2024 project #Bat 🦇

go.bsky.app/Troc5dA Just created a starter pack to go along with the #TidyTiwns list. Slowly trying to explore more of bluesky features 🦋

What a beautiful sunny Spring day! The team headed over to McDonagh Crescent on Saturday to do some work on our orchard and little copse. The new path (thanks to @bostonsci.bsky.social) is looking spectacular😊

@clonmeltidytowns.bsky.social hello! Brilliant to have you on bluesky! I shall add you into the starter pack!

Our #SaturdayMorning Clontarf Tidy Towns clean up! A wet morning but we are a resilient group of volunteers! Lovely to see the coastal birds, we are so lucky to to be by the sea! We need to protect so #LeaveNoTrace @dublinbiosphere @birdwatchireland.bsky.social

Glorious photos! 🪶

"Identifying and protecting Ireland's rainforest fragments would strengthen another weapon against climate breakdown, says Eoghan Daltun, a rewilding farmer in west Cork’s Beara Peninsula, and author of 'The Magic of an Irish Rainforest'." In today's Guardian. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

We had a great turnout for our tidy up of old vegetation around our ponds and wetlands today - on a lovely sunny Sunday morning. This clears the ground for fresh Spring growth, which can only be around the corner. #TidyTowns #Wetlands

I'm considering donating my services (illustration & design) to science or political educators who are trying to combat the constant misinformation going on. If you have suggestions, feel free to throw a link or tag in my comments.

Says Brigid enough of codology Mythology and archaeology I’ve had it up to me neck I don’t give a feck It’s all madness and pseudiology #brigid #imbolc

Stay well, feel as positive as you can. Today we get 8:18:13 of daylight. Tomorrow we get 3m59s more than today. If you can, take a stroll, breathe some air, get some light on your face. #daylightbot

Fascinating 🧵 Happy #StBrigidsDay

Your January #rewildingwins have arrived 📫 The new year has just begun, and already the rewilding movement in Britain is bursting with exciting milestones to celebrate. (🧵1/7)

Oh that’s both beautiful and (faintly) ominous 🪶

A bumblebee can only fly for about 40 mins between feeding. These amazing pollinating insects are being hit hard by widespread habitat loss. So each nectar-rich flower you plant in a windowbox or in your garden or community green spaces could be the pit stop that saves a bee 🐝 #SaveTheBees #nature

@racheldelahaye.bsky.social waves in welcome to Bluesky!

Great work!

Just created my first Bluesky 🦋 list - for tidy town groups active here! If that’s you & I haven’t spotted, let me know - I’d be delighted to add you in! Follow, pin, share as you wish! #TidyTowns

Wonderful idea for the UK audience. Here @birdwatchireland.bsky.social run the Irish Garden Bird Survey from December to February. No need to sign up to participate - you’ll find all the information on their website (and a lot more besides!)

Footage request! We are looking to add footage to our image/video library of curlews/whimbrels. In the first instance, we are mostly interested in Eurasian Curlews and Whimbrels in wetland locations. If you would like to donate footage to us, please e-mail megan (at) curlewaction (dot) org, or DM

Great idea!

Nature is in crisis. Species all over are declining or crashing towards extinction. But by taking action for biodiversity in our communities, gardens, landscapes, farmland, towns - and by standing together & insisting political leaders step up - we can help nature recover & rebound. Let’s do this 🐝

The magic of an Irish rainforest. 🌍

That’s the dream! 🧀

Bird Therapy was loaned out from the library service 566 times last year. Not only does that figure blow my mind, but it’s serendipitous as I wrote a lot of the book in my local library in lieu of owning a laptop, and visit there once a week, every week. We must all love our libraries! #booksky

@ourworldindata.org have been listening to @hannahritchie.bsky.social book Not the End of the World. Absolutely wonderful to have a positive view of our future (given all the doomsmongers out there) - hoping to play a part in The First Sustainable Generation.

The world is awful. The world is much better. The world can be much better. All three statements are true at the same time. Understanding this is key to solving big global problems. We believe data & research can help us understand both the problems we face & the progress that’s possible. 🧵

Wow! What a moth!

@glendoherpark.bsky.social hello!

@ballybodentt.bsky.social sends a wave! Great to see you here on bluesky 🦋
