Measles in Alberta: 89 confirmed cases as of 12 pm, April 17, 2025 • 87.6% of all cases thus far have been in children • You can get vaccinated for free by calling 8-1-1 www.alberta.ca/measles #Alberta #Measles #ABpoli

It was an eventful day at the Alberta legislature. My colleague Janet French captures all of it here. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Poilievre just LIED, a bill was put forward last year and the year before against abortion by his MP’s, "We will not adopt laws to restrict the right to abortion. It's been our policy [not to] for more than 20 years and it won't change," Poilievre said. "It's a guarantee that I offer you."

From the DM’s… This is allegedly the letter Pete Guthrie wrote to Danielle Smith when he resigned as Minister in Feb. In it, he alleges that Lagrange and likely Smith knew about the procurement problems & worse, that the AHS board was fired under false pretense. #abpoli #ableg

From the DM’s… The UCP hit a brand new low today! Not only are they clawing back the federal disability subsidy from vulnerable Albertans… They’re asking AISH recipients to apply for it SO the UCP can claw it back from them! #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

NEW The Alberta government is going full MAGA with its Compassionate Intervention Act, which will strip people who use drugs of due process and force them into months-long medical incarceration. drugdatadecoded.ca/alberta-ends...

BREAKING: The ROM has confirmed to me that their board director — who I reported is tied to Trump’s mass deportations — has stepped down!

Fucking disgusting the leaders debate made Mark Carney take TWO questions (plus follow ups, so four) from dogshit grifters who were behind the article targeting HIS CHILD All bc they're too chickenshit to stand up to these asswipes that crawled out of their mom's basements for the night

I see the CBC has decided that Alberta separatists are very important and need multiple stories about how 25% of the province might vote to leave Canada. Naturally a lot of white people get interviewed and not a single person from a First Nation, who might, you know, have something important to say.

FYI: @pressprogress.ca’s journalistic standards have specific rules prohibiting our journalists from grandstanding / posing theatrical questions, disrupting press conferences or randomly ambushing news subjects in public, because that behaviour is toxic and stupid pressprogress.ca/journalistic...

All candidates’ debate, well, almost all candidates’ debate in Edmonton Centre. One empty chair. UCP (Conservative) candidate, Sayid Ahmed, decided that answering constituents’ questions is below him. #Yeg #Cdnpoli #Ableg

Students often talk with friends & fam about climate, @lizbarnes.bsky.social + colleagues find. But they tend to go heavy on the stats & facts, and don't know how to bring up solutions. They rarely learn how to have effective conversations, and would love training & practice. Well, guess what! 🧵

This story leaves out critical context. The issue is not that the UCP govt is merely funnelling interview requests from Alberta's Auditor General through a lawyer. The issue is that the lawyer or a senior ministry official must be present when civil servants are interviewed. 1

Wow. UCP backbencher Peter Guthrie is tabling several articles on the auditor general investigation and calling for a public inquiry. He says he's on Day 48 of his suspension from caucus.

My latest column offers 4 tips for progressives wrestling with the thorny topic of strategic voting. Key take-away: vote strategically, but do so wisely and attuned to your local context. www.nationalobserver.com/2025/04/11/o...

Yet another example of how Canada will need to provide its own federal funding & research capacity for health & safety of commercial products. I don’t know how much was, if any, borrowed from US efforts, but that obvs needs to change.

Whoa, Poilievre's announcement today: He would invoke the notwithstanding clause to overturn a Supreme Court ruling and make sure multiple murderers die in prison. This would make him the first prime minister to override the Charter using the notwithstanding clause. Aiieee

Alberta is reporting 16 more measles cases today👇 9 new cases in central zone and 7 new cases in south zone Total to date = 74

Today on the Canadian election campaign trail: Liberal leader Mark Carney is pledging more integration into the EU's ReArm Europe defence plan, saying that as Canada races to spend 2% of GDP of defence, it's looking to spend that money with Europe — not America.

For years, advocates have raised concerns about some private career colleges in Alberta taking advantage of students, with predatory recruiting, signing students up for programs/student loans without their understanding, and/or programs of low quality. Now the province is trying to correct course.

This is correct, Poilievre already stated he would use the #notwithstandingclause across the board, to remove or fire people, to kill government agencies, and programs and with our justice system, this is dangerous and would lead Canada down the wrong path.

I watched parts of several of his rallies and the open hatred he has against people with compassion, whom he calls 'woke', he calls everyone names, attacks others for their ideologies, he attacks diversity, inclusion, women, he is just plain awful, I wish people would see that.

This is yet another example showing how badly Smith wants to be a US governor and not a Canadian premier. My fellow Albertans, stop voting for this madness.

Don’t let Jason Kenney rewrite history I revisited some of my columns/news stories from 2018 to 2022 for this Energi Show. Kenney is no political moderate. He's cut from the same cloth as Smith and Poilievre. Careful, Canada. #CanadaElection2025 youtu.be/QMC86a_OK28

No matter what PoiLIEvre and his Reformacon cult spew, removing a woman's right to choose is a front burner issue for them. Just ask Arnold Viersen the Reformacons very own anti abortion rap artist..... Remember that stunning performance ?

These were dark times indeed. The newly formed Canadian conservative rage farming and gaslighting machine was in full force at this point in time. And it’s only gotten worse, modelling itself after US Republican style politicking. Embrace it at our peril.

“Smith rejected any suggestion the move was a coverup, insisting it was being done to streamline the investigation” This is a new low for smith and it strain credulity to the point of snapping. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli calgaryherald.com/news/smith-d...

The scary concept of acid rain helped drive a successful campaign to regulate emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. Will plastic rain finally convince us enough is enough? 120 million water bottles are falling from the sky over our national parks and wilderness areas.

Let me put this bluntly: nothing short of a full public inquiry will get to the truth. If Albertans let govt carry on w their separate sham investigations they get what they deserve: no real understanding of what is really happening and worsening HC. buff.ly/gzdWrFq

Reminder as we watch measles rates climb in Canada that *this* is Poilievre's attitude towards vaccination during a public health emergency. MMR vaccination has long been mandated for health care workers. Would a Poilievre govt ban the MMR mandate in health care during a huge measles outbreak?

I don't always drive through Parliament Hill security checks and refuse to show proper credentials, but when I do, it's because I am self-important.
