I think humanitarian aid as an extension of soft imperial power is good and "have free elections and we'll cure your tuberculosis" is the best game in town.

Friday night Tequila tweet: Fuck Donald Trump & everyone else who stands with Putin. Fuck @elonmusk & everyone else who doesn’t know what Ukraine is fighting for. Trump & Musk would’ve sided with Great Britain during America’s fight for independence. Fuck them. Slava Ukraini.🇺🇦

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

The thing about the "oh they are too scared to impeach Trump" is they are scared in the wrong direction. They should be scared about what happens if they don't impeach them. And you can throw in whatever sweeteners they need to ease their fears of safety.

Solid summary of a good thread.

Happy Black History Month

Okay, maybe it's not THAT bad.....but Lord, it's not good.

Quite worthwhile.

True and sufficient.

Seems clear there's a need to get "long live the king" out of the news cycle - people seem seriously angry over that. As they should be. Which is why the post office bit is so obviously a distraction. But I'll still let my representatives know to be pushing back on it, one way to another.

Captain America was punching Hitler in his first issue in 1940. (And Joe Simon and Jack Kirby received death threats for it)

If you're trying to figure out what to do right now, my advice is to just pick a thing that you think might be useful in some way, however small, and do it. Doing a thing leads you to doing another, bigger thing, and prepares you for that next thing.

Here in Illinois, ten years ago we saw the consequences of a rampant ideological gutting of government. It genuinely harmed people. Our citizens hated it. Trust me – I was elected based in part on just how much they hated it.

Fictional villains: my motivation involves a complex backstory around lost love and a deep yearning to be understood Real life villains: being cruel makes me feel like a big strong man

i said it many times before the election. american businesses are not prepared for the transactional nature of a trump presidency

The “free speech absolutist” owner of X doesn’t like the output of the Community Notes program he has previously championed, so he puts his massive thumb on that scale to ensure it’s labels align with his twisted view of reality.

Elon Musk on recent FAA firings: “To the best of our knowledge, no one affecting safety has been fired.” Relying on the best of Musk’s thin knowledge is a faulty metric; see firings of key nuclear personnel.

It's especially galling after they spent years spinning these ludicrous conspiracy theories about a cautious, law-abiding, norm-respecting administration "weaponizing" the government against conservatives.

This is dumb because you already have to submit receipts for everything and any discrepancies have to be paid for out of your own pocket. There's also already a daily limit for what you're allowed to spend on hotels and the purchase has to be deemed necessary and approved.

Kings are bad, actually.

Honest question for Elon: What explanation would you like me to give my constituents who rely on this program? Or the other 9/11 families? Because I'm about to get in my car and drive wherever the hell you are right now to find out myself. This makes me sick.

This is like Senators asking for Trump to release funding for their pet projects. When you campaigned for a personalist presidency you have turned yourself into a beggar seeking the King’s favor rather than a citizen who can be confident of equal treatment for all.

This is the intersection point between Muskian arrogance and idiot populism: The conviction that there’s an extremely simple solution for everything that, somehow, nobody else has ever noticed & that you via either genius or “common sense” have uniquely hit upon.

If Trump wants to call himself a king and every Republican is on board with it then it leaves a wide opening for one party to stand for the spirit of the nation, simple as

Hear, hear.

Yeah it’s funny how everything musk does has this same gap between promise and delivery

“Saved” is still doing a lot of work here. If I stop paying my mortgage and utilities I’m not sure you’d describe it as saving money.

I'll take what we can get.

Any Gen Xers on here wanna talk about watching “V: The Mini-Series” as a kid? Because that show is RELEVANT right now, y’all. 1/x

When you fire a bunch of air traffic controllers, then you have a bunch of accidents: you are not saving US money When you fire a bunch of poultry inspectors, then you have a massive outbreak that wipes out chickens & eggs, leading to soaring scarcity & soaring prices: you are not saving US money

Please stop saying it saved money until you understand the value of what was cut. They are downsizing, and if the stuff getting cut had real value, its not a saving.

Put aside the nastiness of this post, & the way in he attacks Zelenskyy as a dictator but says not a word about his pal Putin, & just focus on the way it is written: would you hire this weird person to work for you? Would you trust this odd person to teach your kid in school?

There is no specific Constitutional prohibition against allowing a Russian dictator to massacre Ukrainian civilians. So it’s hard to see why liberals are so upset about what Trump is doing right now by Jonathan Turley
