I’m giving 4 exams over the next two days and then it’s all over but the grading.

Bluesky is great because we can still see all the fake crap but we all agree that it’s fake crap. We can’t ignore it. But it’s a waste of time debating whether or not it’s fake. We bypass that. Great job everyone!

“I get to decide that. I get to decide that. I get to decide that.” is what I say when the dogs surround me when I’m eating cookies. It doesn’t work then either.

"We're winning on this issue. So we need to stop talking about it." Classic

Doing my own research for lunch and I've determined Mexican is best for me and for the greater good.

That was the most depressing (and intense) ending to my Intro to American Govt classes I've ever had in 25 years. Lots of questions from students about what happens next.

NEW: Farmers are dying by suicide at the third-highest rate by vocation in Utah. But after a federal program offering mental health support ran out of money, the state did not continue it. By @jessicamiller.bsky.social, with @sltrib.com

Hmmm. I wonder what happened...

I keep waiting for that covid-like moment when all the stores close and there is nothing to buy. And people will be pissed and you can tell because we will all be together without masks on.

It feels so good to be done prepping classes for the semester. The constant reading schedule that has nothing to do with my research gives way to 3 months of reading what I want, when I want, and where I want.

20 years ago I would have said MTG is not representative of American evangelicalism’s views on anything, and I would have been wrong.

"he looks like he may struggle with a supply chain collapse, and we probably won’t cuddle all that much." Can't stop laughing at this substack. Just fantastic.

Here's my long-term concern: polls, public outrage, etc lead to Dems sweeping back into power in 26 and 28, and we just pretend like none of this ever happened, and don't make any of the constitutional adjustments that are staring us in the face. We systems that work and engaged people. Both.

8 class sessions to go. I need a break.

Why do we continually hitch ourselves to an oligarch? $3.7B net worth.

Starting watching yet another movie last night in which the car chase scene was AI garbage (way beyond CGI), almost video game-ish. Had to stop watching it was so bad. Havoc, on Netflix.

People are NOT understanding what empty cargo ships from China means. It means no work for dock workers. No work for truck drivers, no work for retailers, fewer dollars circulating. The cascade effect is just mind boggling.

Workplace safety: Nader would have had that jet strapped down.

Things are worse now than in DJT’s first administration because we did not do anything about the lawlessness then. We conditioned him and his cronies to be even more corrupt and authoritarian. Now the response will seem even more extreme. You have to

I often say to groups that American Protestantism abandoned Christian moral formation, and that leaves a vacuum. This seems to suggest that authoritarianism has filled the vacuum. Great work here.

Uh, wow. What a sign.

In conjunction with prosecutions for corruption, the US should just take all of his family’s money in the process. All of it. From all of them.

“Eight very strong questions” is what I keep telling myself as we move into final exam week.

I’m sure someone studies this, but I’m firmly committed to the view that if we keep saying Trump’s polling numbers are tanking, that will cause his numbers to tank even more. Keep it up!

Reminder that Donald Trump incited a deadly insurrection and should be prosecuted for this and treason.

The use of the term "deport" to describe a process that is not deportation in the normal sense of the word seems to work fine to bring out the contradictions. "Deport without due process" "Deport a US citizen" "Deport to an El Salvadoran prison." The problems are revealed if polling shows movement.

Higher education post: grades are dumb and we shouldn’t give them.

Can’t wait til the next Democratic president/administration decides not to prosecute anyone for all this so we can “move on.”

Ok, I have to say it now. Season 3 of the original Star Trek is just one long galactic hook-up train for Kirk.

Wow. Went through the list and what’s interesting is the absence of state system schools in the south.

Been hovering over a problem in my research for a few days and took a trip to the marsh this afternoon to clear my head and I figured it out. Thinking is undervalued. We need to talk more openly about how much our jobs require sitting and thinking.

“Guillotines are useful.”

One of the biggest challenges to making changes to a constitutional order is uncertainty, leaving something familiar behind for something new/different. Our current constitutional predicament has made it easier to overcome this challenge by *already* plunging us into uncertainty, easing a change.

How low does the approval rating need to go before legislators become willing to go the impeachment route? Low approval for a bad economy or bad war decisions is one thing, but add on that the dude is a criminal insurrectionist and impeachment should become easier to swallow.
