Finally released Spherely 0.1.0! If you are using Shapely with latitude / longitude data, you might want to try Spherely instead. It provides similar API but relies on spherical geometry (via S2Geometry). 🧡

Clear urban priorities in Berlin. Pedestrians probably don’t pay the right kind of taxes. πŸ‘‘ 🚘

Every hour reveals more familiar scenes gutted by these fires. Profound sadness and worry for the people and the places of LA.

Here's the reality about the #LAFires this week: this isn't the first time ANY of these places have burned. Not even close. In 2018, we mapped CA fire history to look at fire frequency across SoCal. Santa Monica Mtns area burns more than anywhere else -- up to once per decade in a given spot. 🧡

Hello world β€” with little luck, I’m looking for a paper that summarises the history of study of climate change, particularly with respect to glaciers. I.e., what did researchers in the early 20th century think caused the kind of variability that led to terminus position changes? Suggestions?

At the Potsdam train station, the broken clock right next to the train departure board has seen its hands finally… removed. No time > wrong time.

The Mw7.1 South Tibet earthquake was recorded in some of the raspberry shake stations that we deployed in Ukrainian schools and universities. Look at the low frequency component of the spectrogram. This work is led by Dr. Tetiana Amashukeli (from the πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ Nat. Acad. Sci., now at @gfz.bsky.social )

The fireworks in Lucerne were a convincing exercise in cloud seeding πŸŒ™>πŸŽ†>☁️. Temperature was -1ΒΊC over the lake. The show started with clear skies and ended with a pretty thick fog. My guess is that the fine particles were nucleation points for the vapor to condense.
