Every year I get more and more stressed by the number of quilts piling up around the house, and this year it seems to have reached a crisis point. Small question: where's the best place to sell quilts? Big question: How do you be a minimalist while also creating material things?

Sunday sketch #454 I was all set to continue on from last week's chunky arrow-based sawtooth stars, but then decided the designs were a little too similar to Sunday sketch #440, which I posted only 3 months ago. So instead I'm going to work with a slightly different block that follows the same…

Sunday sketch #453 It's been a minute since I played with a sawtooth star. Even though it's a traditional quilt block, I still think it can be adapted quite easily for use in a modern quilt.

One of my favourites at QuiltCon 2025 — couldn’t decide between Park Modern and Tailwinds but the orange was the deciding factor! 🧡

Sunday sketch #452 Did you ever play with stickle bricks as a kid? Those plastic bricks with interlocking bristles that you can use to build stuff. I don't think I ever had any, but as soon as I created this week's sketch, they were the first thing I thought of.

Finished quilt: Breakthrough I’ve found the concept of negative space somewhat difficult to grasp at times, and some of the quilts I've submitted to the 'Use of Negative Space' category in QuiltCon probably didn’t really belong there. (The judges said as much in 2023, although Fanfold was awarded…

Finished quilt: Moonshot I set myself a few loose goals in 2024, one of which was to submit work to a category at QuiltCon that I'd never entered before. There were quite a few to choose from: Improvisation, Appliqué, Small Quilts, Handwork, Group or Bee Quilts, and the Windham Fabric Challenge.…

Sunday sketch #451 A couple of weeks ago, I shared a sketch that used an eight-pointed star on point (as one of two blocks in the design). I liked it enough to pull it out and feature it on its own.

Sunday sketch #450 By now you might be quite familiar with the block in this week's sketch! It's appeared in the last two Sunday sketches (albeit with slight differences).

I also recoloured Sunday sketch #449 using the January issue of Curated Colour from @stitchandyarn.bsky.social, which got me over my 🤮 reaction to purple 🤣💜 Check out the blog post (link in previous post) for loads more versions of this week’s quilt design.

Sunday sketch #449 I liked last week's block, so I kept playing with it. Here's where I ended up!

I need all the help I can get when thinking up colour palettes — looking forward to using this!!

I have a love/hate relationship with minis/small quilts, which is basically a polite way of saying that I mostly don’t love them. But here’s one I made. I don’t love it. I think my own quilting lets it down, but paying a longarmer to quilt a mini seems all kinds of wrong 🤨

Turned my sewing machine on today for the first time in about 3 months. Not sure what it says that I need such a long break from my enjoyable hobby every year…
