Well if the The Herald are reporting this, it must be true. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2503901...

With the democratic deficit in the Scottish Affairs Committee its unlikely this will change anything for Grangemouth. It is especially unlikely that the Tory MP elected in England will have much to say for the people of Grangemouth and Scotlands oil industry. www.falkirkherald.co.uk/business/sco...

There is a lot of media coverage of the situation in Scunthorpe. It is a great shame the mainstream media are not so interested in the closure of Scotland’s only oil refinery despite the vast majority of oil coming from Scotland’s waters. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Strategic asset - “an important resource or element that an organization recognizes, manages, and connects to its mission and business goals to achieve long-term value and competitive advantage”. Will UK Gov deliver where they chose not to for Grangemouth Refinery? news.sky.com/video/share-...

Following the successful 2023 Glasgow UCI World Championships this is a deserved recognition of Scotlands capacity to host large scale sporting events, particularly the previous supporting security operation managed by Police Scotland. www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/m...

The UK establishment doesn’t talk of Scotland’s strategic significance. The GIUK Gap north of Scotland, is an increasingly strategic shipping lane between the Atlantic and the ‘High North’, demonstrated by US interest in Greenland and its moves to self determination. news.sky.com/story/greenl...

Negligence or Russian interference? Vessels have layers of tech, GPS, AIS, radar and 24hr bridge watches to prevent collisions. The Stena Immaculate was carrying aviation fuel for the US military and the captain of the Solong is a Russian national. www.bbc.com/news/article...

The ignorance and utter contempt demonstrated by Trump and Vance for NATO allies is astonishing. The UK alone lost 457 personnel during the twenty year long Afghanistan conflict fought alongside US troops deployed under NATO Article 5. commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-bri...

John Swinney is a good guy and an excellent FM but he has no experience in defence. It is time to get some defence and national security experts on board the SNP.At the moment that knowledge is virtually non existent. www.thenational.scot/news/2498715... www.thenational.scot/news/2498715...

It is increasingly difficult to see how the UK can host a State Visit by Donald Trump when he continues to subjugate Ukraine by withdrawing military aid and now withdrawing intelligence sharing.

Interesting turn of events in Norway. It is great to see Europeans speaking out against Trump/Vance treatment of Zelensky. Moreover, this is a highly valid protest as it will impact on Trump’s ambitions in the increasingly strategic High North. ukdefencejournal.org.uk/norwegian-fu...

Detecting whispers of a rethink on the UK Nuclear Deterrent in the context of independence and NATO membership. Faslane would be an pivotal bargaining chip, source of income and convenient component of a Scots/Anglo defence strategy with the ‘British Isles’ potentially vulnerable from the GIUK Gap?

@rory-stewart.bsky.social makes a valid point that cutting foreign aid in African countries allows state adversaries such as Russia or China to exert malign influence in those countries. Therefore, cutting foreign aid to fund defence is a paradoxical tactic.

Well done @johnswinney.bsky.social for calling out Farage and the far right. news.sky.com/story/swinne...

The Trump video on Gaza confirms everything we already know about him. His primary motivator is self promotion, and everything else comes further down the list of priorities or is simply not of interest to him at all.

Westminster stole Scotland's oil wealth. Now we have some of the most expensive energy bills in Europe. Here's why we've been putting posters up highlighting this across Scotland 👇

Scotland needs a overt and visible naval surface fleet to protect the Scottish mainland and the islands, particularly our renewable and oil & gas energy infrastructure. Will today’s announcement on increased defence spending protect us from the Russian threat in the ‘High North’?

2.5% on defence by 2027, 2.6% after 2027 in recognition of the work of the security and intelligence services. Aim to increase to 3% in next Parliament. Latter figure seems rather meaningless but good to hear the first two, especially the recognition of the security and intelligence services.

Alex Younger (former head of MI6) eloquently sums up the current situation in Europe with regards the Russian threat. To paraphrase if we don’t start spending on defence and create an effective European army. The future could be a “stuff of nightmares”. youtu.be/FocQITpJnaQ?...

This proposed change is outrageous, particularly when unionist MPs say Scotland needs to be more entrepreneurial. Whisky is the already the UKs largest drink export. I’d love to know how much proper Scottish Whisky is registered as an export from England. www.thenational.scot/news/2495113...

What was I saying?.. www.thenational.scot/news/2494898...

I’m quite convinced this reported incident would not have happened if it were not for the inaccurate comments made by VP JD Vance last week. Furthermore, including a stock photo of rosary beads is sensationalising this story by implying praying was involved. www.thenational.scot/news/2494877...

I’m inclined to agree with this article. Whilst there are lots of political hawks, I can’t think of any subject matter experts in the independence movement when it comes to the fields of security, intelligence and defence. www.thenational.scot/politics/249...

A Tory MP criticising the current state of the UK armed forces. Laughable, given that his party were in power for fourteen years until GE24.

There is currently no Royal Navy surface fleet based outside of Plymouth and Portsmouth. Given the increased Russian presence in the ‘High North’, RNB Rosyth must be a candidate for investment and return of operational shipping as part of the Strategic Defence Review. news.sky.com/story/pm-mus...

@rory-stewart.bsky.social you say the “triangle” of success being build between London, Oxford and Cambridge might alarm some in Labour. As a Scot you’ll recognise there are clangers ringing here when Grangemouth is closing and the future of Edinburgh Uni’s super computer is in doubt.

But still the only oil refinery in Scotland, where the vast majority of the oil comes from, doesn’t appear to be worthy of a subsidy www.theguardian.com/business/nil...

Being MP for Lothian East and a former Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander should have a appreciation of the value of Scotland’s only oil refinery, so maybe he can start contributing towards the debate to save Grangemouth now with his second ministerial role? www.thenational.scot/news/2492331...

Predictions of SNP lead is putting pressure on Labour’s Anas Sarwar to work with Farage. Where is Farage now? No sign of him pushing to save Grangemouth now while there is time. He’ll be happy to repeatedly bring it up once it is too late and blame it on his opponents. youtu.be/WnMhCtIwAOU?...

Even Labour MPs are saying the Labour UK Government is not doing enough to save Grangemouth. MP's anger at government over Grangemouth closure www.bbc.com/news/article...

It is unacceptable that Scotland is looking likely to lose its only oil refinery despite producing almost all the oil and gas from its own waters. This is just smoke and mirrors. Don’t be fooled. news.stv.tv/politics/ed-...

Some great questions from the audience on BBC Question Time in Glasgow tonight, particularly from the young lad asking why Scotland’s only oil refinery is closing rather than the ones in England when Scotland produces almost all the oil! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👊🏻

An independent Scotland would have it’s own oil refinery, could authorise further exploration, and profit from all the tax revenue generated from oil and gas rather than it being watered down into the UK economy, which is what currently happens and has been happening for decades.

Well done to Colin Mackay for putting Anas Sarwar on the spot over the Labour UK Government’s failure to invest in and save Scotland’s only oil refinery. youtu.be/PdJThDwqEMU?...

The UK Government have utterly let down Grangemouth and Scotland. Their priorities lie elsewhere in the UK. They cannot save Grangemouth because doing so would lose more votes elsewhere. They are impotent. Only an independent Scotland can make decisions for Scotland.

Simple mathematics: Scotland’s products are generating significant revenue for the UK (population over 68 million) which if it where to go to Scotland (population under 6 million), could help “growth, growth, growth” for Scotland independent from the UK treasury.

You’d think the authors of this article might have mentioned the Scottish National Party’s thoughts on “Britain’s biggest untapped oilfield”… www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Meanwhile Scotland’s only oil refinery closes. www.thenational.scot/news/2489517...
