I have a keen interest in current affairs. I am passionately anti-Brexit and have a distinct dislike of those with extreme right wing views. I am generally to be found in the middle ground, with a tilt to the left on occasions.

I have just listened to a FT Political Fix podcast where one of the speakers compared JD Vance's behaviour in Munich to that of a drunken Rangers fan goading Celtic supporters. It is a pretty good analogy and even facilitates changing the role of the supporters around depending on your allegiance.

Europe can view the deterioration of the relationship with the US as a threat or an opportunity. It is time to build a stronger, more independent Europe and if it really wants to pee Trump off, start reaching out to China.

I am convinced that Trump has a warped strategy. Give Russia what it wants because Ukraine is in its sphere of influence; allow China to take Taiwan for the same reason and consequently, a similar argument prevails for the US taking Greenland. All the bullies are rewarded.

Trump is looking to plunder Ukraine for its bountiful supply of rare minerals. The US has less than 20% of those required to manufacture electric cars. China on the other hand has in excess of 80%. Musk's dominance in this field is under threat.
