Protesters Urged Not To Give Trump Administration Pretext For What It Already Doing theonion.com/protest...

I want to live in a serious country where the actions of the people in power have consequences

Lot of accounts on here talking like cocky, gun-slinging revolutionaries, often behind anonymous accounts, about what separates real protest from performance. A) If you're not a fed and doing that in a public forum, you're a dupe. And B) I hope you’re protesting as much as the folks you dismiss.

Let's get something straight right now. The Minnesota assasinations are not the product of "overheated rhetoric on both sides" or any other such bullshit. This horror is the direct result of Trump's constant vile, violent pronouncements. He has inspired political violence for years.

Know your rights before you hit the streets. Peaceful protest is protected — but only if you know how to protect yourself legally. Read, share, and stay safe.

So the cops showed up at an assassinated legislator’s house, aware there was a potential assassin who may be there, and saw a guy dressed like a cop walking out of the house, who was, in actuality, the assassin, and now there is a manhunt for the guy they had directly in front of them?

The Philly No Kings protest has already grown so big that it has spilled into the street. A variety of groups, organizations and causes represented among the crowd. This woman is now leading a chant.

This last week is a real demonstration of how capacious, yet flattened the word "violent" is in our political discourse. Political assassinations are obviously, clearly violent. But the same word has been used all week to describe protestors damaging objects--not people, objects.

And Rufo saying *THIS WEEK* that they needed to use unmarked vans to take progressive leaders off the streets normalizes the violent unaccountability. This is exactly what he’s been trying to incite.

The contrasting images of a DC ghost town/military parade and 1800 American cities and towns with well-attended protests is going to drive Trump batty.

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government. That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

I continue to think the software industry hyperfocuses on engagement because it's immediately legible to various decision makers and because the "obvious" proxy measures (e.g. time spent using the application) seem easy to measure.

The rule of law lives or dies on our willingness to act—occasionally with grim resolve. It’s time for people who value justice to screw their courage to the sticking place. https://trib.al/DiKqsBS

Happy Friday the 13th! Thirteen is my lucky number-- the number I share with my birthday and the first tattoo I ever got. Here's an old self-portrait I made of myself as the Kazness Monster as I was creating "Mother Goth Rhymes." Does anyone else have a goth-filled center like me? #illustration

Bluesky isn't an echo chamber. It's my feed. My feed is an exquisite, meticulously curated, perpetually manicured echo chamber. It is a thing of beauty.

An advance look at “On Parade,” David Plunkert’s cover for next week's issue. #NewYorkerCovers

Some of you are remarkably judgy about an innocent man being set upon by rabid babies.

old art repost of the night

From a dear comrade who was kind enough to let me share their video. Veterans stage a sit-in on the US Capitol steps and say, “Military off our streets!” Hell yeah!

New Yorkers scream out each officer’s lawsuits against them for excessive force and more upon their city, right to their faces while protesting.

I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III. Sound familiar?

Pritzker's willingness to speak over these fascist pigs is honestly a great endorsement of his suitability to lead in this moment

Take a listen and seriously consider it. While this is not an uncommon practice, I am glad people are beginning to speak up about it.

"Mainstream media has a duty to inform its audience that Trump/Miller policies are in fact hateful. But it rarely does so. Moran is to be commended for speaking truth to power. Speaking truth to power is, after all, what journalists are supposed to do." — @nberlat.bsky.social

@alasdairstuart.com We are at dinner with some cosplayers who love Magnus Archives and have attained immense street credit by telling them we knew you.

"Much of the mythmaking about our pandemic response — indeed, the global pandemic response — is rooted in the absurd conviction that everything we now know about COVID was self-evident from the outset. But COVID was a novel human pathogen." www.aol.com/news/hiltzik...

My therapist suggested some vent art.

Saw this on my way to another spot, but it was too perfect not to share.

Philly local tv station reporting that a man allegedly posed as an ICE agent in order to rob a car repair business office. How many other criminals might be getting this idea right now, given that actual ICE agents are refusing to show IDs, warrants, badges?

This took a while to get done, but I've chronicled my day among the protesters in Los Angeles, and the idea that this is anything but a celebration of cultural heritage and a firm, nonviolent demand to protect family, friends and neighbors is totally ridiculous. prospect.org/justice/crie...
