Ran into a chorus of Eagle Rays - only for a few seconds, then they were gone. I think there were eight total. 🦑 #eagleray #ray #nature #snorkeling #underwaterphotography #photography #maui #hawaii #ocean #wildlife #diving #scuba #water #marinelife #zen #peace

Coral City Camera is always a great place to take a break and have an extended doom scroll safety stop. You should check out their live stream!!

How long did it take you to see this Florida Gar hiding in the Everglades?

Dropping some #anglerfish factoids: Anglerfish teeth are curved backward. So if something tries to escape, it just shoves itself deeper into the mouthal abyss of doom. 🌊🦑 #Anglerfish #Evolution #Science

This week, a large northern pike sampled in a gill net on a lake in the Superior National Forest/Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Sampling efforts on these lakes would be impossible without the hard work of, and collaboration with, dedicated federal employees. #52FishyFridays

One of the weirder things I've seen underwater... this is a sea moth, also called a short or little dragonfish. They walk around the seabed on their fins rather than swimming, and seem determined to remain side-on when you look at them. Eurypegasus draconis, Lembeh #MarineLife 🌊🐟

I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to do with this information

Another one of those posts that sound surreal if you don’t know it’s from an aquarium FB group

Another episode of #BlackHistory in STEM! Let’s talk about Joan Murrell Owens! (Part 1)

Haplochromis sp. „Ruby Green“ is an undescribed #cichlid species that is likely extinct in the wild. Like several other cichlids of the Lake Victoria-Kyoga radiation, this species only survives in hobbyists‘ aquariums. 🐟 #conservation #fishkeeping

Tomorrow on Skype a Scientist LIVE we're talking with @greenleejw.bsky.social all about how eels and history collide! Bring your questions, because this session is a Q&A! RSVP here givebutter.com/6YFvDQ

New episode alert! 📣🎮 This week we are joined by Erin and Ryan Davis, two of the developers of Fish Game! We're huge fans of this game, and it was such a great opportunity to learn more about how such an in-depth, accurate game comes to be! Check out the episode, out this Friday! 🐟

#Sundayfishsketch #nature #art #sciart #fish Here's my Sunday sketch of a Beta fish. I used to have one named Stir Fry and he committed suicide by jumping out of his bowl. I kept his water changed and fed him Beta pellets. So I thought he had a good little life. Anyone else have that happen?

🐟 Deep-sea monsters? Nope. The real freaks are in freshwater. 🦷 Vampire fish with 2” fangs 🐊 Alligator gar—prehistoric, armor-plated giants ⚡ Goliath tigerfish—razor-toothed nightmares And several others💪🏻 These fish are BUILT DIFFERENT. Watch now: https://buff.ly/3QirznJ #scicomm #science

How long have you been obsessed with fish 🐟🧪. For me it started at 2 years old fishing for snappers in the Hudson River then bluegill in Lake Wash-Wash-Kesh. As a teen I routinely fed the family, but I have never eaten fish myself. #fishBotherer

#februarty #fishyfeb #sundayfishsketch There are big and small fish, for the februARTy prompt, and I’m going to just name the big fish Barb (short for Barbara) as a *big* stretch for the fishyfeb prompt. Maybe one of the tiny fish is a Barb. I mostly wanted to try the #procreate thylacine brush.

Not on my bingo card: accidentally breeding Dawkinsia filamentosus! Just this one as far as I saw. The adults don't have these big bars on the body but you can see the distinctive caudal markings faintly.

Apparently deadlines elude me, so here are the beginnings of a Blue spotted ribbontail ray for #SundayFishSketch

'Tis a heart not for Valentines but for my science friends at U.S. federal agencies. I was once one too—so to see this reckless mass firing of talented staff breaks my heart. Most countries worry about a brain drain in their leadership. Others apparently lust for it. #SundayFishSketch #Flashes 🦑🐡🧪

for #sturgeonsaturday i want to highlight the crucial research done by many scientists across north america in conserving & saving 8 sturgeon species 🧪🌎👩🏻‍🔬🌐🦑🐠 right now, conservation science is an act of resistance, and we must fight to continue to save our animals that cannot save themselves 1/

Sharks deserve love too. On this day dedicated to love and appreciation, let’s think about how we can continue to protect these vital predators with continued conservation efforts to keep them thriving. To support MISS and our efforts, click the link below! https://buff.ly/3thCwta

🐟 Mouthbrooding #cichlids need to regularly „chew“ the eggs in their mouth to supply them with fresh, oxygen-rich water. #fishkeeping

This week we're introduced to new host for the podcast, Alanna Mnich, a postdoctoral researcher continuing research on larval Atlantic Bluefin Tuna among other side projects and interests. We cover her past work with larval cephalopods, low oxygen areas, and developing a new color line of chickens.

Time for a fun #ThrowbackThursday! Last July, we covered the strange, sometimes amusing things that fish eat! 🍽 From sea grasses to license plates, is there anything fish *won't* eat? Find out on Episode 33: Weird things that fish eat!

#BlackHistoryMonth celebrates our fight for equality through our nation’s rocky past. I have been in this field for 15 years and people of color are still very scarce. I did not get here on my own. Employers and admissions committees had to take a chance on me. (1/4)
