Plenty of nations are prepared to trade with each other. Many will do so fairly and respectfully. The USA obviously doesn't want to do it like that. I wouldn't be looking to make a deal. I'd be looking to reduce trade in any way I could. Less in and out. Find partners elsewhere.

What the USA is doing, is the equivalent of every supermarket, adding a tax on every wholesaler, because the wholesaler only supplies them with goods, and doesn't buy from the supermarket. Ask yourself what happens to the supermarket, once the wholesalers doesn't supply them anymore.

Applying a 10% tariff to an island of penguins, to stop nations with tarrifs of almost 5X that going through it, as a loophole, is a very weak excuse, for absolute stupidity. For one, as it's a much lower rate, if these nations wanted to do that, they still would. As it's a much lower rate.
