I went and ate at the famous Chili John’s in Burbank today. It’s been open since 1946 and might not be around much longer. Honestly it’s such an old school greasy spoon that it’s a miracle it’s survived this long and hasn’t been turned into a Starbucks yet.

This is one of my favorite poems and I wanted to quote it in my first book. I emailed Sexton's daughter for permission. She was very nice, but basically just told me to ask the agent who represents her mother's estate. I ended up just paraphrasing and hoping that someone would "get" the reference.
