Like my father before me, I have on more than one occasion been physically ejected from the corporate offices of the Chicago Cubs baseball club.

My sincere condolences. Very gratifying that family was all there (as was the case with my dad), but still an incredibly hard thing to go through.

Clearly, my strategy should be to diss one Blue Jay every game.

Sorry, that should have read: the patented based-loaded-walk-sacrifice-fly-wild-pitch-sacrifice-fly-throwing-error five-run rally.

Like, you're a veteran ballclub built to reach and succeed in the playoffs, with a massive payroll and equivalent expectations, and your players are still having relationship issues with the coaches? At this stage of the process?

Ohtani fell to me with the second pick. I grabbed K Marte and J Chourio in the next two rounds and it went pretty well from there. Blue Jays on my roster: Bichette, Kirk, Gausman, and (a late-round flyer) Scherzer.

And, to be clear, I thought it was already very good value.

Interesting! I think putting him in CF is, uh, ambitious, but I suppose it’s a sign of how much they want to get his bat in the lineup.

I still don't expect (but would obviously welcome) an extension before or during the season. I think Vlad will take this to free agency and find out exactly what he's worth on the market (as he should). But the last couple of weeks have restored my confidence that a deal can eventually be reached.

The part about "only one player in history has had marketing value above their on-field value" (Ohtani, obviously) was probably a rebuke of Vlad's (probable) contention that his aura was worth $$ on top of the value of his bat -- and a message that the Jays won't be paying him any "aura premium."

This is actually a favour to Polievre, and I'm sure it was intended as such. He can't make up ground until he persuades non-base voters that he doesn't secretly admire Trump and won't cave in to him. I have no idea if he can pull it off, but that's his only hope electorally. Hence Trump's statement.

There’s no good reason to play the national anthem before any sporting event, but there’s even less reason to play the anthem of the country where the visiting team is based. If we weren’t already doing this, nobody would suggest we start. Dumb tradition, perfect opportunity to give it up.

Chris Bassitt would be very unwise to cosplay Gretzky again.
