Good evening . . . We're conjuring some unranked games—games uninterested in ranking the players and their performance. For example: • Multivictor games where players pursue their own goals in a messy social space. • Victorless games that defy the concept of winning with narrative outcomes. 1/🧵

Spending Sunday watching a replay of the @bristolbotbuilders.com competition from yesterday. It's an amazing competition of insectweight combat bots, based in the UK. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCd0...

One thing I used to do on Facebook is post #dontopendeadinside memes. I love them. This one below is my favorite.

Confession: I don't mind the sentiment behind the guillotine memes (that the ultra-wealthy have too much power), but I'm not a fan of guillotines themselves, and I find the imagery counterproductive.

This article raises two excellent points: 1) A single day's boycott will probably not have a huge impact in and of itself. BUT... 2) This is excellent practice by the general public for a bigger action down the road, like a longer boycott or even a general strike. I hope it does well.

Love it. Hopefully folks recognize and appreciate this and are willing to provide the financial support we need in small independent games journalism.

Very good news, and I hope other Substack users follow suit!

Rescue worker Graeme Hart, 32, said: “He was looking a little thin, but otherwise he seemed in weirdly good spirits for someone who’d been isolated from society with seemingly no hope of return.”

This is breaking my brain right now. I don't pretend to know much about demoscene, but I always assumed you needed a computer for it. Not a floppy drive connected to a monitor through a single resistor. With all music coming exclusively from the floppy drive itself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zprS...

Last night’s game was Galactic Cruise. Very impressive game! Clever rules, well-integrated theme, lots of cronchy decisions, and a low level of player interaction. The latter is very much to my liking, as it allows for chill long term planning.

I hate that it's come to this, but maybe this will be useful to some folks I know. A trove of info about how to relocate from the US to a country in hopefully better shape. transworldexpress.org
